True dual exhaust for c55...whose done em?

Hey guys,

I'm planning on reworking my exhaust system for my car to a true dual set up with an x-pipe right after the downpipes. However, my only speed bump I see in making the true dual exhaust is the rear sway bar. It has that bump on the left side that gives clearance to the single pipe, but not to the other side. Did anyone, who has done this, just route the pipe a little lower on that side compared to the stock route for the piping?

Any input on the exhaust path, and especially if you think an x-pipe would help create more gains and reduce drone, would be beneficial.

Thanks again guys.

I DON'T COME HERE ANYMORE
Hooley did it-I ran into the same thing as you-and didnt see the gains in sound or powa as enough beni for the added cost-

Thanks for the heads up. From what I've been reading here, the stock piping and mufflers are pretty unrestrictive, but its mainly the headers/cats that clog up the exhaust flow...

The only thing I'd like to do is maybe install the x-pipe then to reduce drone...

or maybe put a glass-pack style resonator to reduce a little bit of drone?

95% of the exhaust restriction in the entire exhaust system is from:

-stock exhaust manifolds
-stock primary cats
-stock secondary cats

Everything past the 2nd cats is free flowing (both resonator & mufflers) nothing else needs to be done including changing piping. If you tackle those three issues (which it looks like you have already started w/ 2nd cat & res delete) then you will be done with the exhaust system.

With the kleemann headers and true dual exhaust I gained a little south of 20rwhp. I am sure most of the power was from the headers fwiw. The right side just needs some good work from a shop, but it can be done.

You were running kleemann sport cats too right? I'm going to be running straight down pipes...in mexico...where i only drive my car... Shouldn't that free up a bit more as well?

That sway bar is not even an issue. I have never hit that ever. On both dual setups I had. Just go right under it. It wont be an issue. I'd post pics but photobucket is down for a bit. until then you get a video. However hitting the park rev limiter does no justice. ( this was my first dual setup)

you should have plenty of room to go under the void in the sway bar.

I have true dual. I think I did a more extensive write up when I first got it done. The cliff notes version is that my buddy owns a performance shop in the area and has been doing my cars for years. With the C55 we went with the res/cat delete and x-pipe. The car sounds vicious on cold start and has a real nice tone to it once it gets warmed up (and when your left foot gets heavy). I don't have any sound or pics, but there are examples all over youtube of similar set ups.

He's kinda busy with that huge truck of his, i mean all the cracker barrel gatherings, nascar races, and helping ppl move their plasmas take up a lot of time. And good luck trying to get country music reception in the middle of Hialeah.

I'm picking up my car from the shop today, after getting its kleemann headers and down pipes put on. If the drone is too loud I think I'll have to go with a true x pipe right after the downpipes.

With your set up is drone reduced and the exhaust smoother sounded (rather than like a tractor) because of the mixing of the exhaust pulses?

I made the switch to a true dual setup with an x pipe yesterday.

I actually think it sounds a little smoother than just having the secondaries and resonator removed. I havnt been able to get on it WOT with the windows down yet due to it being rainy in ATL the past couple days so I dont have a good reference to my old setup.

You know most bang for the buck would be a single 3-3.5" flowmaster exhaust. You'll save weight, get better scavenging and it will be cheaper.
