C32 Exhaust tip question

Does your C32 accumulate a lot of black soot around the exhaust tips? I've noticed that my tips get real black and I'm thinking my car may be burning oil. I have had to add about a quart of oil before my 10k oil change since I have been the owner. I was wondering if that was normal or if there is some thing I can do to fix the potential problem?

carbon built up on the exhaust tips are normal. just clean them one a while you wash the car. these cars normally runs rich to protect the engine.

a ecu tune will bring the air fuel mixture more in line. but its burnt gases being expelled. you clean and it goes away. unless you mod quite a bit and are datalogging or tuning on a reg. basis better to be rich than lean

No, all of our engines run with lambda at full load ca 0,85-0,95, so its rich. And all under Lambda 1 is rich. Lambda 1 doesnt give you all power.

like frank said, most OEMs run rich for reliability reasons and the car tends to run richer on cold start ups.

I think he meant running higher octane gas. not the "rich/lean" amount of gas/air ratio we're talking about.

take note that he mentions lambda values, i do believe that correlates to afr.

Hi, no i mean not high octane

You got most power @ full range if you adjust the gas/air ratio on ca. 0,85-0,95 (and in this region you have to find out, on which Value you got the most power).

Heres a picture.

Stoichiometric = Lambda 1.

2005 Pontiac GTO 6.0 LS2 - Blue
When I bought my C32 the exhaust tips were completely black. Not one bit of the chrome was visible. Took me around two hours with turtle wax chrome polisher/cleaner and a few microfiber cloths to get it nice, and shinny again...
