Talking DONE. finally bought CM30 Johnson Pump.

YES. after debate between needswings.com's BOSCH pump vs. CM30 Johnson...decided to go with CM30..

there will be some modification with the CM30, but its not too bad i guess...been searching on here about DIY's and such, and been reading through the forums, and its not that bad of a job...BUT if anything, lets just say its awesome to have 2 friends who are MB techs :-] hehehehehe

anyways

this is how i did it. wrap the cm30 in some rubber from a bicycle inner tube. enough to fit into the rubber sleeve of the oem pump. mounted!!
now disassemble the old pump electrical connection. theres a capacitor and some solder to remove. using a solder gun attach to the wires of the cm30 and insulate with heat shrink tape. simple plug and play now with now wires hacked. dont forget to reuse the capacitor. its purpose is to protect the pump from a surge when it kicks on

That's exactly how I did it. I didn't want to cut the OEM wire connector and solder the wires like other posts suggested, so I cannibalized the original OEM pump and used its connector. I tied it down with a couple of wire ties and its very secure. Looks very neat, clean, and professional. I used different padding to make it fit in the OEM bracket, although the rubber tubing is a great idea.

when you take off the old pump theres a connector for the wires. (a plug) thats were the capacitor is.
the cm30 comes with 2 bare wires + and -. so you will need to reuse the old plug and solder it to the bare wires in order to have a clean secure and watertite way to plug the pump in. its very simple to do. im just **** about such things!!

it's easier than you think....
1.remove tire
2.take off wheel well cover
3. clamp PITA oem hose clamps with a sm c clamp (plug hose with a cork to minimize coolant loss)
4.repeat step 3 for other hose
5.remove old pump
6.connect hoses to cm30( remember which is which inlet/outlet )
7.mout cm 30 with provided bracket or mount as 320 dreamer said.
8.splice wires with elec.tape + heat shrink tape (took apart my plug no capacitor noted, may be different for slk, thank god for fuses in the trunk)
9. DONE

The worst part will always be those annoying OE pressure clamps. That's what will take up most of your time... I too used a small c-clamp to loosen the hose clamps.

had tube sides up coz i had extra leeway with the wires but not the hoses. I would have mounted the pump straight up but it would have been too much of a pain to replace with longer hoses. in theory it's supposed to decrease the wear and tear on the brushes of the motoraccording to a thread. GL

I want to put in the CM30, but already have installed the new lightning pump... At the time the Johnson pumps were unavailable for some reason, and cost around $200.

APEUSA.com is a DEF!
$145 and just choose the standard free shipping (priority 2-5 business days) only took 2days from Texas, to Capital City, Sacramento.
