SL Style Grill...

I know one or more members got their SL style grill from Ebay (or from other source) and installed them.. I tried to search for part number or pics but no luck (Yes.. I suck at internet.. )

So, if you could give me some advice on where to get one, how to install one, and other parts I may be needed to install, please reply below my post.

Thanks in adv

the single fin/wing one?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-05...ht_4546wt_1165

Someone had posted pictures up before of it on...it looks ok except the eggcrate/mesh/chickenwire doesnt fill up the whole grill area on c55s and clks...so theres an odd gap thats noticeable. Other than that, looks pretty good...nice contemporary look.

I'm actually really fond of my 3-slat grill.

I hate the stock C55 grille, I don't think it goes well with the car at all. Plus, to much chrome for me. I was going to buy that one fin grille, but I decided not to because of that odd gap. I knew it would bug me. I ended up spending the money and getting a new three fin OEM CLK grille and I really like it. Yes, you will need the CLK grille spacer and hood safety catch. You'll also need to remove the chrome strip from the hood that's held on by a few 7 or 8mm nuts.

I need to find someone to trade me my 209 4 slat for a 209 3 slat. Looks more modern I guess.

BTW, that's a great picture RLx02.

I will say, I didn't like the 3 fin CL style grille I had on my C230 at all. I think it was too straight up and down and not wide enough, but I think the design works perfect with the CLK/C55 front end.

+1

The 3-slat w209 grille looks a hell of a lot better than the OEM.

You'd have thought for the price of the car they could have at least tossed that in from the beginning. Look at what BMW did with all the new sheet metal on the e46 M3.

IIRC, at the time MB would put starless grills and upright stars on all of their sedans, and would put starred grills and flat stars on their coupes.

That's what I understood too, until I saw the grill and flat badge on a R-class (or was it a GL?). In any event, it would have been nice if they'd done something to make the C55 look like something other than a C230 Kompressor.

I think the SUV's also had the starred grills, even way back when the M came out a long time ago.

And as for making the C55 look different, was the entire front end not enough?

You can't blame a car company for using similar styling on their grills - the front grill area is a design signature (and all car companies use the same grill signature). I'm not sure where your posts are going? Yes, many like the CLK grills better, but it didn't go with their design philosophy at the time.
