A & B Service and Resetting

Fellas:

Does anyone have the breakdown of the A and B services, i.e. the tasks performed by the dealership.? Additionally, how do you reset the computer after you perform the recommended service?

I know I read this info on the forum before, however, I have tried to search for the info again and cannot seem to find it.

Thanks for the help.

Scott

There's a small manual that comes in addition to the owner's manual. Info is in there (I don't remember off the top of my head)

Thanks Ruben. So basically we are looking at an oil change and fluids topped off? That is what I figured.

Depending on your dealership for the nominal fee of $69-$130 you can have them just do an oil change and reset the Flexible Service System counter.

Allot cheaper I would recommend performing the oil change at 5000 miles between the 10000 miles full flex services if you want to.

I think on the service B if you have a supercharger they service that as well. Other than that they are just inspecting everything to make sure everything is within spec.

*Consult your dealership for exact pricing on your model*

Wonder what they use to lubricate the hood hinges with, mine seem a bit dry. One thing I don't like about my car is when popping the hood sounds like popping the hood of an old ford F250, terrible noise.lol

Yeah, mine too. And I need to lube the sunroof channel, though I heard I can just use Vaseline for that

I didn't know the B service was so similar to the A... I like that lube and reset method as long as the car gets regular attention from the owner (who here doesn't check their levels, etc regularly).

The Flex-A and Flex-B services seems pretty much the same, except for the engine management test. Does that justify almost double the pricing??

I am about to get ready for my service B and while I only paid 140 for service A, I've been quoted about 390 for the 20K B Service. Should I shop around or just go to a non-dealer?

What is the best way to shop for services quotes online?

No idea why they double the price from A to B. It also seems difficult to cross-reference shops for MB specific regular maintenance online.
I would start with as reputable an independent mechanic as you can find on yelp and use a simple service like an A or B to judge if they can handle bigger jobs down the road. My indie charges 99 bucks for and A and 199 for a B service. Reasonably priced and does good work! Hope you find similar!

Call Edwin at Star Auto in San Ramon, (925) 838-4727. Tell him Drew with the C55 sent you and he will take good care of you.
The 99/199 pricing is from these coupons I get with the paper every once in a while. If you bring it up, I'm sure he will give it to you!

One explanation for the A/B price difference may be the cabin air filter change included in B service schedule. I believe I was quoted $175 for that alone. Quality charcoal filters can be had for about $25 and DIY in about 20 minutes. The secret is one pop-on panel you must yank to the point you think you will break something before the fasteners release (peg ball in socket like some headlight assemblies), but that is how it's done.
