Alternator rebuild in Chicago area?
Anyone know where an alternator can get rebuilt in the western Chicago suburbs? Mine just died and I'd prefer not to buy new if possible.

Now that I'm finally home, I can describe what happened a little bit better. For a little while now, I was getting a squealing sound when the car is in gear and sitting still. Once I would start accelerating, the sound would go away. I figured it's a loose belt, but have been so busy that I just haven't had time to get it checked out.
So I'm driving last night, when all of a sudden I hear some strange sound coming from under the hood. I wasn't accelerating, just driving with the cruise control on. It almost sounded like a bit of vibration, then a bit of a thumping sound. Shortly after that, the alternator warning came on, the power steering went out, the abs went out, and then I got the coolant warning. I couldn't stop where I was at, so I had to keep going to the closest exit....which took a while. I got the shut down message on the radio, the dash lights started dimming out, and then the headlights turned off.

Just got a call from Eurocharged, and it isn't the alternator. Apparently, it was the idler pulley that seized....so the idler bearing, water pump, and s/c bearing will need to be replaced. This one is gonna hurt. They were saying about $300 for the water pump, something like $1800 for the s/c replacement kit, and then the idler bearing and belt. I could have sworn when I got the 185 kit that I was told it was with the new upgraded bearing, but now am hearing that it was their older design.

I got the car back. The Eurocharged guys took great care of me on this and got everything fixed for a lot less than what was initially thought. Hats off to them for great work, as usual.
