C55 Oil level problem

Hi all,

I just picked up an 05 C55 on the weekend and I was planning on leaving it in storage until May as I will be out of town for the whole month of April.

Anyways, took the car home on Saturday and since then it's been sitting in my garage, but when I went to start it up this morning, I got a couple of messages in regards to the engine oil.

When I haven't started the car up, I get the "Switch iginition on to check engine oil level' but after I start the car up, I get the "Engine oil level Not When engine on" message!!

Do i need to run the car for a while and then turn it off before it will properly check the oil?

Thanks!

You have to check it when the engine is cold.

No, you just have to turn the ignition on and not start the engine and it will check the oil level.

Thanks, but the thing is, before I start the car, it tells me "Switch iginition on to check engine oil level" and after I start the car up, it says it's checking the oil level and then gives me the "Engine oil level Not When engine on" message...

Oh well, guess it's going to be a trip to the dealer...

Turn the key all the way to the right but don't start it.

if you're saying you got that message when you were not trying to check the oil level, then I would not worry as you probably hit the steering wheel buttons by accident.

This is normal (breathe...)

As you scroll through the menus with the steering wheel button, you will see that one of the menus is the oil level check menu. What you have probably done is when you're switching the car off, you're leaving the car in this menu. So yes, when you start it up, you're going to go back to that same menu. Go ahead and flip through the menus some and leave it in a different place - you'll see this go away.

The car will tell you when you're low on oil "Check oil at next service station" or something like that. The screen you're seeing is the check screen - to check the oil, you go to this menu via the wheel buttons, you put the car in the run/on position, but you don't start it. It takes about 5 seconds, and then it'll tell you "ok" or how much to add. You can't check the oil when the car is running nor immediately after you've shut it off.

Just to add for people searching. If you get this message, "Oil Level - Visit Workshop" the sensor is shot.

Le dipstick? These cars do not come with one. Although you can purchase one from the dealer, for the oil and for the transmission.

Is the one for the oil one that can stay in there or is it a universal tool for all cars like the transmission dipstick?
