Rack and Pinion

OK.. So I take my C32 to the dealership for an oil change and they notice that one of my tie rods is damaged. They fix it. I leave and Not 1 mile away from the dealership I notice that when I go into a turn (left or right) the wheel automatically wants to re adjust back to the center.I immediatly call my service guy and tell him. I bring it back and they try and flush the power steering fluid out to fix it. NO LUCK. Now he tells me I need an entire new rack and pinion system. This problem did not exsist until they messed with the tie rod. Now they want $2,400. to fix it. Any suggenstions? Could what they have done with the outer tie rod effect the rack and pinion? Help!!!!!

Why is it bad that the steering wheel wants to correct to center? I spent $10,000 for a rack for the F355 to correct just the opposite - a wheel stuck in the turning position.

It is bad because it clearly "jerks" I have not even finished the turn yet and it jumps back. It will even do it when I am not moving. I turn the wheel one way and it jerks back.

That was their first thought to ressolve my power steering issues. They thought if they flushed it out it may somehow fix it. It did not help at all.

You said there was no issue when they discovered the "damaged" tie rod, right? In what way was it damaged? Regardless, they clearly messed something up, and should be held liable...

The tie rod was very loose and they said it could have come off at anytime. You are right I agree they should be held responsible. I am calling the service manger tomorrow to find out. The question is does fixing the tie rod or them giving me a 4 wheel alignment have anything to do with my rack and pinion being messed up?

Fixing the tie rod could be related to the rack and pinion problem. After-all the tie rods are what connects the hydraulic steering to the wheels, and they are a component of the rack and pinion. My assumption is they messed something up during the process. It's not required, but maybe they dropped the rack to work on the tie rod, and messed something up in the process.

That is exactly what it feels and sounds like, something messed up with hydraulic.
