Lowering springs help

Guys, I'm wanting to drop my stock '06 C55 a good inch or so and I'm lost as in the whole process. This is a new car for me, and I'm not real up on the process. What would you guys suggest as a spring...price wise...where to get them and how much I should be expecting to pay? Do guys drop the front and not the rear? Any good threads that show this process?

Also, I'm chaning to 19" wheels...any suggestions as to the set-up that will work tire and wheel size wise? Thanks!

What about cutting the front springs. I'm a hot rod guy and on my '66 Mustang I cut 1/2 coil to achieve the lowering results. Is this possible?

These are finely tuned progressive rate springs. you don't want to cut springs it will really screw up the ride and I believe they are heat treated so you could affect their strength. I have seen H&R springs mentioned alot.

I'm gonna back thtguy on this one and highly advise against cutting the springs. Even if it's only half a coil. Save up, do it right, save money in the long run.

I've heard of cutting being done, but it was done on aftermarket springs. The springs on the C55 are going to probably be close to as low as you would go with out having to go with coilovers. I could be wrong, but you should check out this thread as well: https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...coilovers.html

I'm contemplating lowering my C55 also. I used Vogtlands on my C32 and would probably do the same with my C55. I believe the springs were under $300 the last time I checked. Since the C55 already sits lower than the C32 I'm guessing you're probably looking at an inch drop at the most. As for wheels, the 19'' TSW Bremmas are a popular choice and look great! Here's a picture of a C55 with Vogtlands:

So is the car with the black wheels that you attached a pic of a C55 lowered or a C32? I actually didn't realize that C55's already set lower. I did notice that my car seemed a little lower than some of the C32's I see pics of. Is the pic of your Diamond Black C55 with the monolites lowered?

I used H&R springs to lower my 06 C55, I bought the front and rears from Tire Rack. I did it myself and I consider myself an intermediate mechanic, maybe not even that. Only thing I had to do was rent a spring compressor, I went to Pep Boys and got it for $20 a day.

The whole process took me 4 hours to complete. I had to finally take my car in for an alignment, I went to NTB and got it done for $60.

So total $80 aside from the price of the springs, I cant recall how much it was but you can easily find out from www.tirerack.com.

I have 19 inch custom TSW's in my car and the back tire is slightly inside the wheel well, the front is almost flush with the bottom of the wheel well lip.

I've posted pictures before, but dont have access to a camera to snap them this week, and my phone takes sub-par pictures.

what are your offsets on the 19s. My experience with the HRs are you'd need to raise the rear end with the next thicker shim. It looked great (the drop) until i had a full load of passengers (total 4) and the rear wheels would bottom out everytime I go thru a bump or depression. This is a common occurence with 9.5 x 19s and HR springs. My first set of 19s had 35mm offset, my second set has 30mm offset and it's magnified the rubbing. BTW i have 265s Falkens in the rear.

note: the lower the offset number is, the farther away the rim is from the center.

If you only want approx. one inch, use the Renntech springs. Those springs won't ruin the ride either.

No rubbing issues, I have Toyo Proxes, 235 in front (35's) and 265 (30's) in the back, default offset.

They are TSW Indy 500's

As a lone driver, no problem... but as I said, with four adult passengers, the rear tires rub slightly the wheel well when you go thru an abrupt depression at speeds of 55 mph.
Maybe I need Koni sport shocks

This problem came up only when the new rims I picked up had a 30mm offset. This meant the wheel is now closer to the fender by .200". That made a huge difference. I've had to pry the fenders out until it stopped rubbing.

No problem with the 35mm offset (Brabus reps S mono) even with a full load plus luggages. (Trip to Grand Canyon with my wife, two teenagers and my mother-in-law)

Thats a good point, I have had 5 passengers but the extent of that is my wife, 2 daughters and a friend, they are 8 and 5 so not much weight.

I guess I need to give 2 +200 lbs. passengers a ride and see how it goes.

Like I said no rubbing at all even with aggressive driving / cornering.
