Does anyone have a radar detector? Need a mounting point.

I just got a Escort 9500ix radar, but I can't find a place I like it mounted. I have the big suction cup the visor clip and the small suction cups and hardwire kit I haven't installed, but I really don't like any of them. Not really sure what I am looking for, but maybe you guys have some experience with them.

Thanks

I don't have one because I don't think they'll make a difference, but I think the concensus here in the V1 is the best and can even be integrated into the cluster display if I'm not mistaken so it can be completely hidden.

I have been reading reviews and it seems as if escorts redline is the best, but it doesn't have the gps function so i went with it. I couldn't find any that integrated into the cluster I even called mid city and they didn't have one. I really like this ones functionality better than a v1 but I didn't realize how much of a pain it would be mounting it. The v1 at best u could find would integrate into the mirror but you lose your mirrors function like the garage door or auto dimming.

They definitely make a difference. Where a normal radar detector works best are with cops driving down the road with their radar on. Mine has saved me a few times from that.

Combine them with a laser jammer and you're in really good shape.

Back on topic -- I've had mine mounted top center of the windshield with suction cups for about a year now. The wire just hangs down....I keep meaning to run permanent wires out of the way but I've gotten used to it and it doesn't really bother me now.

most people do it near the review mirror. I just put mine on the dash with the wire tucked under the ac vent.

Conventional wisdom says to mount a RD high since it (radar) tends to travel that way. However, Lidar (Laser) is changing that thinking and rapidly. I have a Redline, 9500iX and also the V-1. I wont debate which is best, BUT wherever you mount the unit, In my opinion, if you're looking for maximum laser protection or detection , the large majority, if not all LEOs, are trained to shoot for either the headlights or the front tag (plate) (if the state is one that has a front plate then they go for that first and will move out toward the headlights if they cant get a fix on the plate. If you mount the RD high, it will reduce the chance of you even getting an alert on the laser. Worse yet is if the RD is behind a tint strip, which I never recommend.

Thus, I tend to mount center and low, just ABOVE the windshield wipers for maximum laser detection. You'll still get your radar hits there as well. I also remove my units after use to deter theft.

I run my passport X50 right in the center of the windscreen but Im not too worried about the look as much as the effect. My thought process behind it is that as long as it doesn't hurt my vision and is legal in my state(too bad virginia), Im not hiding it.

I went with the passport for the same thing Newzchspy & Biscuit were talking about. Lasers are what 90% of the police around my area have since it is so congested. I had the Escort SifterZR3 laserjammer that tied into my Escort radar unit on my old car. It worked wonders. I had more than one occasion that I drove past an officer that I could tell was trying to lock me in and was getting errors and getting frustrated. The kit is getting transferred to the c55 once I can find some free time.

Here's my V1 hardwire writeup. you could probably adapt it for your install.

I am not a fan of the Escort LaserShifter since on GOL tests it has not performed well, BUT the LI is really the one to go with for front and rear protection!! The new heads are really good and the hardware is the best!!

I saw that test and I can see where that would put some off but the majority of the police in this area carry Prolaser IIIs and LaserAtlanta guns which it actually did pretty decent on. Plus it tied into my current radar unit so that was a plus

Agreed though on the fact that it isn't the best. I actually thought about switching over to a Blinder model instead a while back.

All the guys that use the LI on this forum with either C55, C32 and C63 absolutely love the LI and that's the ticket to have according to the GOL tests!! I guess a LOT of it depends on what state you are in, BUT for Max performance, the LI is the way to go!!
