2002 C32 amg issue, please advise

It has been making a whining noise for a while now. When I took it to my mechanic, he told me the bearings in the super charger are gone and either the super charger needs to be replaced (4k) or the existing super charger needs to be rebuilt (3k). I took the car to a dealership to check my options out and the mechanic there told me the bearings of the pulley in the super charger are bad, and the pulley system needs to be replaced (1.5k). Suggestions, advice? I am getting tons of conflicting opinions. Thanks.

+1 to what overdrive said. You can replace the idler pulleys from parts.com for cheap.

none
Put a long screwdriver to either pulley and put your ear to it.
Sound should amplify through the screwdriver, you will know its a pulley

bearing in the pulley, I would also recommend the pulley saver kit from needswings while you're at it. Will be cheaper than replacing the idler pulley bearing.

If you're at all mechanical, it's a very easy install. Buy the bearing take the Supercharger pulley off and take it to a machine shop to press out the old bearing and press in the new one. If you want to go the pulley saver kit route, it comes with easy to follow instructions. If you search on this forum you'll find a diy for removing the sc pulley. The Code 3 directions are posted in the stickied thread at the top as well.

Also, most likely, you won't find a mechanic willing to swap the bearing. They just want to charge you for the whole assembly.

Can anybody send me the phone number for needswings? I need to get expedited shipping but can't seem to figure out how to contact them. Thanks.

Worked perfectly guys. Thank you! The noise is completely gone. Instead of 4-7 k, the whole thing cost me 700 bucks including the bearing on the pulley, the idler pulleys etc.

What did you spend $700 on? If you got the parts from needs wings including the pulley saver kit, then it should have cost half of what you spent, unless you paid some one to do the install.
