Stage 3 SRT-4 vs C32 AMG

Ran into an SRT-4 last night. Didn't know it was heavily modified. We go to race 50-100MPH he got head start. Stayed right behind no pull until he mis-shifed and shot a bunch of flames. Exhaust was located on side of vehicle. Second run 50-125MPH we honk and he jumps early 2nd honk. Pulled right up on his rear drafting 100-125MPH. My brother was driving... He shouldn't have gone that second run. With an even launch the c32 would have pulled a length or so by 125MPH. Either way it was a good few runs against a fast neon, LOL. He's lucking we didn't get too much into top end or the c32 would have been gone. So if you see a video on youtube or whatever let me know...

Nice runs! I am always hesitant when I see an SRT-4, because you'll never know how fast they are (same thing with Evos and Subies).

I guess the smooth rate of acceleration in the C32s doesn't help in giving me any confidence either.

[QUOTE=ddtham;4272154]Nice runs! I am always hesitant when I see an SRT-4, because you'll never know how fast they are (same thing with Evos and Subies). +1 and also MazdaSpeed 3s modded as well.

In fairness to the C32 here, you're talking apples and oranges in cars. Weight is vastly different in the 2 cars. Its about a 2900 lb car versus a 3600 lbs (approx), so there's 700 lbs or 4 passengers alone. I've raced Neons in SCCA (ACR) and have owned one (ACR). Stock, there is NO WAY a Neon, even the ACR, would stay with a C32 or C55. You can modify the Neons (now out of production for 5 years) pretty heavily though and get them well over 300 hp in a front driver (which is scary in and of itself). Boomba and Greddy as well as Mopar and XS used to make a lot of stuff for them. They LOVE to torque steer. My Neon handled great for a front driver, BUT was also build-wise the biggest PO**** you ever seen. If you ever get a chance, drive an ACR, its one of the best handling FWD cars you'll ever drive. Just when Dodge/ChryCo got it right, they dropped the car. Sorta like the last gen of the Fiero 25 years ago??

srt 4's are dangerous on the highway I would be scared to run one. (yet I would love to do it) I have been wanting to run against an STi or Evo though. I used to own a modded STi and as much as I loved that thing ill admit they fall on there face after 100 .. stock or modded

A modded Sti, Evo or SRT-4 is nothing to sneer at. Some are deadly quick as well as modded Speed 3s. Out of the digg, very few cars will run with an AWD sedan like the Evo/Sti.(this is why the TT Porsche is so deadly to the Vette, it just "hooks and goes" i.e. Spinnin Aint winnin!!)

Problem with the SRTs is that they are FWD and suck off the line. They just can't hook and they torque steer like crazy, even with the LSD option they offered. The steering wheel on an SRT-4/ACR is like wrestling an alligator when modded.

Funny thing is I can picture myself doing that!

I ran two different modded Mazdaspeed 3s when I was stock and it was pretty good from a dig. I heard that Mazdaspeed 3s can only reliably reach 290whp without breaking down the internals though, is this true?

I am scared of AWDs cars like Evos, STIs or B5 S4 (another sleeper)

yea all those cars mentioned are rediculous when unleashed with mods.. do S4's really get modded very often? My buddy told me to look at those when I was looking at getting a C55.

I am cautious with certain Audis too!! You never know what you're getting and it could be a sleeper. Lots of Audi guys debadge like us!! From a digg, they are "brutal" as well , damned AWD will get ya every time. Friends who have them love me, BUT say they can be very unreliable and parts ain't cheap.

You're thinking more of the ML series then!! Owning one and driving in turns , I can tell you, they are every bit of 2.5 tons!! Our cars are around 3600-3740!!

Ditto. Stage 3 (K04) B5 S4 can easily be as fast as modded W211 55K, and we all know what those do to modded to the max 32s.

I would love to have a B5 S4 Avant (wagon) in Nogaro Blue with BBS LMs though

Debadged RS4 can be easily distinguishable from A4s or S4s. I can always tell whether the debadged car is an RS4, S4 or A4, cannot tell the difference between 2.0T and 3.2 though. But then again I am a car nut and always liked the simple, uncluttered designs that Audi has been churning out since a while ago.

Look on the bright side, Benz owned Audi for almost 10 years in the 50s and 60s!! (aka Auto Union)

Truth. I love running against sti's and evo's at the 1/8th mile track, its always a good race. I have a lot of respect for those cars.

Now then, on the highway, on the way home, they always tend to fall behind in the higher speeds

tis true 0 - 100 they are phenominal, on the highway its like where did the power go! damn awd ... I remember the first time I played with some quick cars when my STi was stock and got beat up by lightly modded srt 4s all night. It was a lot of fun though

In my own little experience, I would say over 70% of the S4s I have seen are modded. The 2.7T engine practically said "you can only buy me if you mod me." Most of the S4 owners are pretty nice car enthusiasts.

Coming from the audi scene, I can tell you that S4's are sweet cars that make good power, and do get modded a lot. Having said that, they generally fall in the ranks with the 335i and the likes, not M3's or C55's

That wasn't my quote. The discussion was about weight of C32 versus SRT4 and also I chimed in about the ML55 that is about 4600 lbs.

I still stick with my comment that even launch this neon would be left in the dust. He had a huge head start. Nice to race a car so modified it shoots constant flames though!
