Trunk doesn't "spring" up anymore.

On my previous '07 C230 when I hit the trunk button on the door or key fob it would spring wide open. Well, the '06 C55 with a good deal more miles than the "new" '07 doesn't spring...it just pops open to a-jar. Any way to grease the arms maybe to fix this? Any other advice?

More often than not my trunk does not 'spring up' either, however, from time to time it still will. Greasing the hinges could probably make a difference - I am pretty sure you would need to remove the trunk paneling to access the actual hinge component.

Believe it or not I also think having a heavy license plate and license plate frame makes quite a bit of difference as well. Once I put on my new AMG frame and new plates when I got the car, the trunk did not 'pop' open as frequently.

none
I think you can adjust the tension on the springs in the trunk
My trunk used to fly open until I put a C55 spoiler on the back and it would only pop open.

My C240 would also spring open but my C55 just pops up a lil, it probably has the same tension but the weight of the spoiler makes a difference.

Moose is correct, both sides of the trunk have springs, if you added a euro plate under the us plate and/or have the spoiler there is alot more weight for the springs to 'spring'. You'll have to remove or pull back the carpeting on either side and with vice gripes clamp down on the spring and pull it to a further hole...5 min fix.

I will have to look into this, Usually when I pop the trunk with my key it is because my hands are full and it would be easier to put stuff in. But then usually when I want to close it my hands are full too... too bad we can't get auto closer like E and S classes

lol, I recently started to have the same problem. Only after adding the heavier Black Series spoiler. Now to check to see if the springs can be adjusted

Awesome! I'll be checking to see if I can get my truck to "fly open" like I think its supposed to! I was about to say that maybe all C55's had the issue due to the spoiler, but I just remembered that in '07 all the sport edition's got the AMG spoiler, so that can't be the only reason for the non-spring in our trunks.

I have always had this problem with my 05. Dealer says it's normal. I have a problem with my arm rest as well compared to my old 05 C230, it doesn't incline.

I re-adjusted my springs per this advice and my trunk now springs open.

Mine doesn't do it as well and I like it that way. Almost got smacked in the face with my mom's 5 series that did that. I've got arms, no thanks.

So I am not the only one who doesn't have the incline feature on their 05 armrest?
