FROZEN BOOST 26x7x2 Heat Exchanger

Here on Thursday I should be done with installation on this 26x7x2 heat exchanger for $175 shipped. I didn't want to pay the $450 dollars for a Eurocharged 28x7x2.25 H/E, and decided to search around for something different. Of course we all know the EC H/E is very high quality, and I'm sure worth the money. EC has a 1.8 liter capacity. Build quality seems very good on the FB. Welds look good. It has a 1 liter fluid capacity. Solid aluminum was used. It's at least five times as heavy compared to stock H/E! 1/2" NPT female inlet/outlet. Drain valve. Water temperature port. Mounting tabs top and bottom.

The mounting tabs were too small to be used for install on the impact bar. Went to home depot and picked up some 1/2" NIP to 5/8" adapters, "V" brackets, washers, lock washers, and bolts. Planned to mount on the bottom side at first to recess the heat exchanger back some. After examining the impact bar more I figured mounting to the front would be best. Dremeled a bracket into two straight sections, and added a second bolt hole. I'll update with the results once it's installed, and the C32 is running again!

very nice diy. I would jbweld the nuts though. The vibrations of the car will eventually loosen the nuts.

I did consider epoxy, thread locker, or JBWeld. Seems to be perfect with the lock washer though as I torqued them down A LOT. I can pull as hard as I want at an angle, and the extension won't budge even a MM. Good suggestion though. I will do so along with some where the extension touches the tab... Be 100% sure it won't move at all.

Do you think the self tapping screws will be big enough for support on the impact bar? Same size as the holes 1/4"...

maybe just pay a muffler guy $20 just to weld it to the impact bar?

I know most people just screw on the Eurocharged, so I figure it will be fine. How about a little more JB on the bracket to bar?

yeah should it be ok. I have the code3 one. I still think its the best. It has the tabs on the side so it directly bolts to the 4 bolts under the impact bar like if it was stock.

I would have bought the C3P if it were still available. I posted in the Classified section trying to source one, and have searched ebay, etc... No luck. What's the dimensions on the code 3 performance heat exchanger, and fluid capacity if you know?

Looks like my C32 is missing something. Other than the radiator of course which is already installed...

Can't wait until she's all done up on Thursday!

Another thing to mention my friend down here has C3P H/E, and the design looks identical to this one other than the length. Same size or slightly smaller water passages, and similar fin spacing.

sorry i dunno the dimensions. Basically its was a spearco core and it was pretty big, probably comparable to the LET. I'll try to take a pic next time i take off the bumper.

I think it was brandons best part, better then his code3 sc pulley. He made good parts, just he just sucked at making them in quantity.

I have yet to install my "Brandon" Code 3 IC HE. It is a very nice piece. Been in a box for over 2 years. Running the Johnson pump and Needswings reservoir by-pass, BUT yet to put this one on. Actually , most of Brandon's stuff was very nice, straight out of SB California!!!

The box came nicely packed in foam "sandwiching" the unit and he included the all hoses and clamps for the unit to be installed as well. Well worth its price!!

Looks really nice, been trying to hunt one of these also since it's plug and play.

What's the reason why LET didn't go down this route? Capacity?

Probably cost of production and from what I know, LET is now just doing tunes (Eurocharged). No more shop work or dyno. I doubt in the future you"ll see much more being made (ala, C3, LET, Eurocharged) for the C32/55 as these cars age. Not much demand for mods etc and fewer cars on the road as they go to the junk yards.

Lucky STR-6/SLK32 guys fitting those huge super coolers! New heat exchanger is mounted to impact bar. Perfect fitment, and strong hold. Now to finish up flush on the transmission and coolant system. Then get to see if the front bumper will go back on or some shaving will be required. Hard to tell at this point. I think those bottom mounting tabs might be in the way slightly. If so I'll dremel them off, and then just cut a small section for the drain valve.

Everything's done now. Heat exchanger installed, transmission flushed, coolant flush, and new radiator. I had to end up cutting out small sections on bottom side of the front bumper to fit this heat exchanger. Not a big deal IMO. If one were to dremel off those bottom tabs, and mount back a little further only section needing to be cut would be for the drain valve. I did have to end up recessing the heat exchanger back some. It can't be mounted with a bracket directly onto the impact bar as pictured above. I put spacers on the bracket, and set it back about an inch. Two inches would be best...

Overall car feels a lot stronger. It always felt strong before everything heated up, and then I had a very noticeable drop in output. No more issues. Strong all the time. I'm running a 70/30 water/antifreeze with a bottle of purple ice added. Temps stay a little lower now. Definitely a doable heat exchanger for a lot less than Eurocharged. Just isn't a direct bolt on. Will require some work obviously... I'll post up some photographs later.

Cellphone photograph, but it works. I like how the heat exchanger doesn't fill up the entire opening on the front bumper...

Big difference... Very noticeable! I believe this H/E can be installed without any cutting by adding a bracket same as the C3P. Had to cut because it prevents the front bumper, and bottom skid plate from going on by about 1/4". With my bracket it's spaced down 1/2"...

Night photograph. On my Kodak POS though not the Nikon D40... Went back to CL grille, and cut up a front plate. Covers my ugly cracked bumper good.

Looks very nice. So, this is a comparable and considerably cheaper option to the LET/Eurocharged HE?

It gets the job done that's for sure. Comparable yes, but to what extent I'm not sure. Eurocharged is larger, and has a higher fluid capacity. In general that's going to provide more efficient cooling. Frozen Boost 26x7x2 with 1 liter capacity. Eurocharged 28x7x2.25 with 1.8 liter capacity. Is EC overkill being that this FB is rated for 600-1200HP? I think not because of our intercooler inefficiency. EC direct bolt up. FB will require extra work. My personal opinion is leaning towards the FB. As stated above I really like how it doesn't fill up the entire front bumper opening. Looks more like a heat exchanger/air intercooler that way.

Cut front section of bottom skid plate to fit it back on. Have to love a dremel! I'll try to get some photographs here soon so everyone can see how I cut up my c32... Heat exchanger working great still. No issues, except for my need to accelerate faster than ever required!

a land yacht.
you should cut off that black plastic thing in the middle of your bumper blocking the heat exchanger..I did mine and it looks a little better in my opinion......take a look...
