265s on a 10" wheel in the rear. Stock suspension and it rubs on the inner fenders a little bit over big dips. I'm going to try 275's this summer and hope it doesn't rub too much more than it already does. I don't think its possible to fit 285s unless you do a lot of mods to get it to fit.

Simple guide
245: Stock
255: best "safe" size
265: will rub with people/weight in trunk, but only minimally
275+: modification needed unless you want major rubbing
personally I have run 3 sets of 255s with zero issues. However, in an attmept for better traction, im going to try 265s when this set is finished

If not lowered
a 275 should fit if installed on the proper offset 9-9.5 inch rim.
The rim width and correct ET are the key.
You can always roll the arch and massage the bumper.

I've got 235/ 275 combo on SL55 rims. What I noticed and hear from other people is that the drivers side rubs more than the passenger side so it sound like a tooling problem. To run 275's, pull out the grinder because mine rubbed where the lower bumper plastic ties in to the quarter panels. The stiffening ribs will need to be ground to nothing. The wheel arches really didn't rub. Fill your trunk up with a couple big bags of cement and back the car on a ramp and stuff a feeler gauge or place masking tape on the inner fenders to see where it rubs.

As Viper mentioned before, 255s are going to give you the cleanest look. 265s on stock rims will give you a "ballooned" look. Or in other words, your tires will bulge out over the lip of the rim. I have gotten used to it since I had my winter tires installed, but in about a month I am getting my summer tires back on (ContiSports 245/35/18) and I definitely prefer the flush look over the 265s.

I rubbed with 265/35/18 on a 9.5 rim only in the left rear side, I grinded the metal attachment clips and no rubbing so far. Might try 275/35/18 or 285/30/18 next, 285/30 is actually the same stock diameter compared to 265 or 275 on a 35 series tire that is taller.

I currently run 255 in the rear on the stock 8.5" rims, no rubbing at all. Handling, cornering etc... feels much more controlable with the wider tire. The overall rear stance tire edge to tire edge is 68.75" wide with 255 width tires on it.
The stock stance tire edge to tire edge is 67.75" wide with 245 width tires.
I would say the widest you could go on stock rims and no rubbing would be 265, but you would have some noticable buldge over the lip of the rim.
Here are mine on the stock rim.
