Mercedes Service cheated me?????????

OMG

This is what happened!!!

Few weeks ago, I've got a call from the MB service department since I've got my service A (mayb B), and the guy said that the engineer found two leaking points (I can't remember where they were).

So, he asked me to fix it or not?? and it costs about $1200.

I told him that I will think about it and went to the dealer to get my car back.

I was confused when I got my report bcause it says there is no leaking problem at all.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF!!! Who do I have to believe???

The service department guy? Or the report???? ****!!!

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!????!!!!!

First, relax.

Second, "engineer"?

Third, you've provide us with zero information about what was said to be leaking, and to be honest, it looks like you have zero clue at all and either didn't read the work order and/or you don't understand it and/or didn't take the time to write down what the mechanic said. Basically, there's fluid everywhere in the car, all different routes to go.

I will give you a reversal so you get what we're reading:

OMG I HAVE SOMETHING SITTING HERE IN MY OFFICE AND ITS BROKEN WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX IT AND HOW MUCH WILL IT COST BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG!!!!!!!!!

And how have they cheated you, as the title states, if you haven't gotten the repair yet?

OK here's the thing.

I went to the dealer to get the service plan B.

So, after few days later from the day of my visit, I got a call from the dealer(service department) that the service was done.

During the call, however, he gave me the information that there are leaking problems and asked me that whether I want to fix it or not.

He said leaking points are front somewhere (can't remember exactly) and rear part(crank shaft or something).

The cost was around $1,200 since they have to take apart the transmission to fix that and it takes a day or so.

I told him that I will think about that and picked my car without solving the leakage problems.

When I picked my car, I got the service B report as well.

However, the report described that there is no leakage at all.

No PROBLEM!!!

What am I supposed to do???????????

I don't know... figure out EXACTLY what the problem was then write it down and research on it? It's kind of hard to google "front thing and back thing oil leak".

Then the next thing is to not pretend you were cheated, when no work was performed at all, and the only thing is that you gave a vague deviation, since you seem to not understand what your service B is. Your service B covers just what is on that list. If you need a repair, that comes separately as an estimate. If you're not sure what it is, go back to the service department, then ask them to write it down, then you can figure out what you can do. Then do another unheard of thing: ask the guy what he thinks and converse with him about options, show you the leaking he found, how long you can go, etc. Don't talk to the internet to mind read something only you and him were present for. Empower yourself to get yourself out of this mess.

My guess is valve cover gasket for the front leak.

Here is what you can do:
1. Re-ask the dealer where it's leaking from.
2. Get a second opinion from your local independent shop once you've done (1)
3. Ask the experts here after (1)
4. Relax a bit, it's not the end of the world

Well, if you're seriously wanting to get your car fixed: take the car back and ask them to lift it up and show you where the leaks are. It's your car and your money so you have a right to see what they're fixing. No big deal.

+1 Visual confirmations

I ask to visually see any time they are saying something needs to be fixed that I didn't originally bring the car in for.

You could ask to see the hard copy of the original work order. The technician should have writen down, usually on the back of the work order, all the things he noticed when performing the service B. It's possible that the service advisor didn't bother to write that info down on the final copy of your invoice as you declined the repair.

Pretty sure the rear crankshaft seal aka rear main is the "rear part" which involves pulling the transmission and replacing the seal at the rear of the engine. Mine is leaking and I am not looking forward to doing this.

LMAO! this made my day! +1 for visual inspection...

Although originally I had thought this was going to be about them actually screwing you over... like one time i brought my car in for service and the checked spark plugs for wear... then broke the wires when pulling them off (brand new ones)... then told me they were broken when I brought the car in.. LMAO... dumb tech left the wires in the front seat clearly broken off due to force... needless to say they do lots of favors for me now LOL (the only reason why I go to Helms Bro's in Queens NY)

This might be a little off topic but kind of relates. There have been reports of local Mercedes dealerships tacking on work that is not needed. Now I know this has probably been going on under the table for decades but recently it has gotten really bad. My indy shop is telling me that they are getting lots of people from the dealer with lists of things needed to be fixed/replaced and when he goes into to check, half the time it is not needed at all! I confirmed this recently when I went in to the dealer to have an alignment done because my indy shop doesn't do alignments. They told me I couldn't do the alignment because my right rear tire rod was BENT, front swaybar links were worn, and my front thrust arm bushing were worn. They claimed that the alignment would be pointless until I fixed allt hose things.

I took it to my indy shop and the guy even showed me exactly what they were claiming and that all the parts were fine needing NO maintenence.

So just beware, times are tough and I think the dealers are getting really desperate!

I have heard of this many times... i have also heard that mercedes' training rules state that it is better to replace the whole thing than to be liable for not fixing a part.... for instance they sell the whole headlight assembly for 1200, instead of just the ballast for 300... they do have a habit of saying something is much worse than it really is... it frustrates me sometimes... because once I was told my idler pulley was going to break my whole engine... when all it was doing was making a squeak LOL... its all a matter of sales... and you must be aware of what they r doing... always refuse to let them work on it unless you see it for yourself... then if its a large job... check that the part was actually repaired...

What I do have a question about... is that I suspect a tech stole my camera out of my car when it was serviced this last week... what can I do? or should I just go and buy another one? lol

You are liable for what is in your car when it rolls into the shop, and what is missing when it rolls out. Good luck with the missing camera...

The service dept. uses metrics just like sales, including commissioned based compensation. More parts, more service = more sales, more commission, etc....

You are responsible for using your brain when talking to your SA.
