High pitched whine - voltage regulator?
When I first start up the car, I get a high pitched whine for a little bit. It eventually goes away. It also sometimes comes back when I come to a stoplight.
I wonder if this is the voltage regulator? And if so, is it on it's way out? I haven't noticed (at least I don't think) any power blips. The regulator is a pretty common problem on these cars, I'm just wondering if I should go ahead and buy a spare just in case and put it on the shelf.

I have this exact same thing, usually upon startup and every so often at stop lights when the engine has not reached running temp yet. Any insight here is much appreciated.

It's not the air pump, the air pump lasts longer during startup only and sounds like a loud broken bearing. This is a very high pitched whine, similar but louder than HID ballast whine.

Again, spot on description Viper. The reason this thread struck a chord with me was because I was hearing this very noise on the way home from work yesterday.

I guess it just seems like it's been sounding louder and longer lately, so I was just curious to know if anyone who's had a VR replaced noticed any issues before it went out.
