2006 C55 AMG
Just picked up a C55!

I finally pulled the trigger and bought a 2006 C55 this weekend! Shes got all the options and the former owner really took superb care of her -- the interior is flawless and she drives like new! She has 60K miles but by all rights she looks and drives like shes got only 10K.

Some photos are in the garage, and a bunch more are online here (Sadly by the time I had cleaned up all the cleaning supplies to take more styled shots it was getting dark. I'll try and get something more stylish next week)

Oh, and the previous owner had a K40 system integrated directly into the dash

My TODO of upgrades:
  • Xenons
  • Paint/Coat the rims a dark grey
  • replace the front grill with an aftermarket one with a big MB Star
  • (maybe) get an AMG flat badge
  • (maybe) get an AMG or a V8 emblem for the front doors (where the C32 says V6 Kompressor)
  • Bluetooth (A2DP) audio... somehow....

I'm a bit torn about the audio right now. It has an AUX port in the glove box, so for $5 I could just use a cable, but that's ugly. Is it worth $700 to get the cartronics ipod/bluetooth box and adapter though just to get rid of a cable? One alternative I've thought of is a bluetooth receiver (example), however, that needs power and I'm not quiet sure how to get that in there. Any thoughts on that? (Perhaps I can take out the cd changer and use something back there?)

Cheers,
-Z

Congrats Zach, just picked up an '06 myself...gotta agree with arekux, first mod was k&n's but second was removing the secondary cats. I left the resonator in place for now as I was worried that it might be too loud. Now it sounds like it should have from the factory and you gain hp to boot. Since I just got mine I've had the same questions as you regarding updating the audio...if you do a search you will find a few threads about owners who have replaced the factory units with Pioneer AVIC head units. Good luck and enjoy!

The cable is hardly noticeable... I run mine through the glovebox and my ipod sits in the cup holder perfectly.

That said, welcome!

Congrats! How much did you get it for if you don't mind? I'm curious since I also just got one last week. 60K miles too! Black/black FTW!

There are several solutions we offer that are less than $700. It really depends on what features you want and how elegant or simple you want it to be. Call anyone at 678-528-3443 and one of us can help you. We are all techs, and can simply offer the best solution for the budget in mind.
We even have a used factory iPod kit available right now, that combined with our AnyStream would give you wireless (and wired when desired) setup for very little investment. However, I can not see your current head unit in any of the pictures you posted. That would help us to know, in order to help you.

Also curious about this! Also, perhaps another mod should be replacing the rear rotors with cross-drilled vented rotors and painting the calipers silver to match the fronts. If you do the work yourself the mod will only cost around $200.

Also, since you bought the car at 60,000 miles, you should check with the previous owner if he has ever had the transmission fluid replaced or the differential fluid replaced. If the question to either of those is no, you are a prime candidate for those items. Might as well catch them while you can! Labor and parts for the transmission fluid change at an indy mechanic: $250 (approx.), for the differential fluid change: $120 (approx.).

You could have all of those things done and it still will be cheaper and easier than finding and buying w209 projector headlights on eBay (which isn't easy)! I think the going rate for used projectors (OEM) is $200-$400 a piece, so for each side.

Lastly, it will be much cheaper if you simply rewire the aux cabling yourself, which you can do by routing the aux output away from the glove box (the main plug is located in the passenger side foot sill) and running it to your glove box. I have been too lazy to do this mod and simply let the wire snake around the side of my glove box when I listen to my iPod. Not at all undercutting Cartronics post, they have been very helpful to many forum members, even when individuals are working with installing kits not even sold by Cartronics! A solid forum sponsor for sure.

Hope some of this helps. Enjoy your ride and welcome!

Congrat's Zack! Sounds like a great C55. I too have a black on black '06. Mine has only 23k on the clock and I've had since new. You'll find these forums helpful. You'll love driving it every time you climb in.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome! I'm very impressed that so many people who show up to say welcome and also provide useful advise to boot!

To answer some questions and ask one or two more of my own:

* Got it for 24.5. A bit much, I know, given the milage but like I said the previous owner really kept it prestine inside and out, and I figure that however much I overpaid was worth it to get something that felt new.

* Eurocharged seems to be located in Texas... which is mighty far from NYC.... do people usually just ship the car back and fourth or? (EDIT: just noticed that they actually have a dealer in white planes.... tempting...) (EDIT #2: $0?? link)

* Will call cartronics in the AM and see if I can get the bluetooth ipod piece @ less than market price . At the prices listed on the site though, the bluetooth mod + the anystream I think is $549 + $75 or so, plus tax S&H is $700 or so (was my estimate).

* I have a detailed service history, doesn't look like fluids were changed. I'll get that done before going to a track for sure, thanks for the tip!

About doing any performance mods... so this is my story: I live in a city with fantastic public transit, this is purely a for-pleasure vehicle. That said, I live in a city and don't have my own garage. I also don't like driving and having something stop working on the highway and calling AAA.

How do most people balance concerns like this? Do mods/tunes/removed resonators etc. usually cause problems, or do most people do the tuning 'right' and generally run without interfering with reliable driving?

as far as doing the ecu flash from eurocharged, all it takes is sending in your ECU to their facility and they do their magic and send it back. the price SHOULD read $399 (wtf $0?) lol anyways a tune+deleting your resonators will not affect your reliability. i think that i can safely say that these engines are bullet proof as long as you don't run too lean or do very excessive amounts of mods and run the car hard day and night.

Do you have any links to walkthroughs on setting that up? Did you have to pick up any panels etc. to get that to look nice?

Also, I should mention, its got COMAND NAV. So its the lcd screen with a blue background and the 4 bottons vertically on the screen. Photo soon...
