Mercedes C55 Cylinder 1 Misfire

When I was driving back from a friends, I noticed that the engine started violently shaking the car. My check engine light came on and the car was depleted of about half it's power. When I got home, I plugged my scanner Into the ecu and it read "cylinder 1 misfire. Surprisingly, I was able to clear the code, and the car has been running perfectly fine ever since. There is no check engine light and no error codes are displaying. However, I'm worried that a cylinder coil could be going bad. Has anyone had this problem or know of anyone who has had to change a coil(s) before 90k miles? I currently have 83,000 miles on the car. The only mod is an ecu flash.

I would say check your spark plug wires, it's unusual to have those kind of symptoms at that mileage, but you never know.

We just encountered this problem on our 02 c240 (cylinder 2) either a bad spark plug or coil, having it get fixed on friday. You should get it checked out,i heard that if you run with a non firing cylinder long enough, it can damage your alternator.

Yeah u were right. I was gonna have it checked out tomorrow. Now my alternator failed and the cooling system has shut down. The cylinder hasn't been misfiring lately, which confuses me as to why this would happen. I cleared that misfiring code and everything has been running fine

The first time I had this problem, it turned out to be a cracked magnacor wire. Replaced with OE wires -- problem solved. Also, when I later installed new magnacor wires I didn't have a problem either.

The second time I had this problem it was due to a fouled plug in cylinder two caused by a bent valve. Apparently, a part of the intake manifold came loose and lodged between the exhaust valve and the seat.

i just got our mercedes back from the shop. he cleared the CEL last week and we drove the car all week and it never came back on. i picked it up and nothing was wrong with it and the idle was smooth again. pretty awesome. no charge either.

Hmm maybe it was just a coding error In the ecu. I haven't had any misfirings or any warning lights come on.

Ever since I cleared the code its been fine. The alternator was irrelevant, I just had to replace the belt
