H&R Coilovers: Known Clearance Issues?
Just ordered a set, and was curious if anyone here is running them and if they had any clearance issues. Wheels are currently 18x8.5 et35 18x9.5 et 35, and while spacing them out is in the near future, I was curious if I'll be able to have the coils installed before I throw on spacers.
Thanks,
Pat

I have tien coilovers and USED to have 19's. For me, it rode way too hard and I had a lot of rubbing in the back, esp. under hard cornering. So I went back to OEM. 18's would probably be fine though...

You will need to run spacers up front otherwise you will rub the perches. You need around et 27 to clear the perches on any set of coil overs. Your rear offset is fine.

with the right size tire, you can always get away with little to no rubbing. Plus nothing is better than a perfect stance with the right amount of stretch on some nice rims.

With so many tire and wheel dimension variables, there’s no telling actual clearance until an in situ test inspection and verification can be carried out.
Note tire-to-strut leeway is substantially reduced owing to the coil-over’s circumferentially threaded housing and perch height.
OE and most replacement MacPherson struts include an indentation to help minimize lateral interference.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I already have spacers for the front and rears, it looks like I'll just order the bolts I need for them (I have conical, need ball seat) and throw them on when i put the coilovers on. Now to find a DIY on the install to decide if I should do this on myself.

I have KW's and I have to run a 10mm spacer up front. Even with the spacer I rub a little on the coil, but not enough to really bother me. My coils are as low as they will go though, so that may be the issue.

Everytime I see pix of Splinter's set up, I wish H&R made a set of "super sport" springs to really get rid of the gap for the w203. I would totally run koni yellows + super sports and 245 up front!
Heads up: pww - front spacers on our cars are "special" in that there is a little lip. not any ol spacers will fit. Check out H&R's webpage to see the difference.
ps - this is a free bump for the other thread.

Thanks again for the info guys. I'll be running an et20 up front, which some of you might think is too aggressive but I think it should work. Will probably run a 12 mm in the back for a 9.5 et 23 for a nice stance. Should come together well. Might move down to a 225 in the front too.

ET 20 up front is totally do-able esp on a c55 w/ wider front fenders. Put the baseball bat and heat gun onto the fender liners a bit and you'll be fine. Im running ET 25 up front and rub only when im almost at full lock. So it only happens when im going really slowly anywho.
Now, ET 23 in the rear, thats gonna be harder
I tried to run ET 21 + 9.5" + 255/35 and I just BARELY rubbed. TONS of poke. Looked cool, but I think ET 25-28 in the rear is more realistic w/ 255. Unless you wanna break out the fender roller (which I wouldnt mind doing, I just dont wanna mess it up)!

Just an update for curious peeps:
Coils installed, they are great, a little on the soft side, but still good. Fronts are all the way down, running an 18x8.5 et20 with a 225, no problems.
Rears are at 18x9.5 et 23, slight rubbing with a 255, with the coils pretty low (tucking some tire)
As for clearance:
Obviously with my 15 and 12 mm spacers (front and rear respectively), I had no problems. However, I ran a 5 mm on the front and no spacers on the rear, and had no problems. So for H&R's, you can run an 18x8.5 et 30 front, and 18x9.5 et35 rear, with no problems.
