Starting MPG?
My C55 always starts with 15mpg at the display, then after a few minutes of city driving it ranges around 14mpg to 16mpg depending on traffic with just feathering the throttle.
Seems a little low. Is this normal? What are you guys getting?

Mine starts out at just under 20 (19.8 I believe), but starts to fall quickly even before I move it (at idle). Usually it falls into the upper 15's within the first mile before starting to climb back up. My commute is around 10 miles. Depending on lights and traffic I average just under 17mpg.

C55's are actually get great mpg on the highway The highest I have seen was over 27 MPG average over 200 miles (really driving like a granny at the speed limit lol) I also have the Brabus ECU/TCU tune which might factor into the mileage. Try to drive yours at the speed limit and feather the gas you should get good mileage bc of the great aerodynamics.

I couldn't believe the mileage I was getting by feathering the gas, typically I don't drive so gently but 27 is by far the best I have ever seen, and it shocked me how a 400+ HP 5.4L V8 can get 27 MPG at 65 MPH... I did cheat however and reset it when I was already at 65 then drove 200 miles straight

my daily commute which is 45mi each way, is a combination city and highway, and my daily average is between 17.5 and 18.5 with average speed of right around 40mph. Best I have seen was on an almost empty I-4 heading to Orlando. I got 27 MPG at an average speed of 85 mph. The same trip in opposite direction, minimal traffic but at a more leisurely pace of 70mph and I only got 22 mpg.

I concur! If only congress agreed with us and made the speed limit 80 on highways! either that or 90, but I think old people wouldnt be able to drive HAHAHA which is why you make a slow traffic lane...

+1, makes a huge difference how much you get on the throttle / cruise. Plus the newer high-power cars out there can't compete with the mid 20s in MPG anyway!! ftw

So are there any tips for getting better gas mileage other than not having a lead foot? Will cleaning the airbox make much difference? I average around 16.5 mpg or higher, but it still seems like the gas needle drops pretty fast. (I understand that you have to pay to play!)

ok how about this reset the meter fill up the car till you cant fill it up anymore, drive normally for a few days record the miles fill up the car again record the amount of fuel needed to fill up do the math if its way off then you might have an isue if not then change you spark plugs kleen your airbox, change your fuel filter and inflate your tires
I will change the spark plugs eventually. (I'm at 71,xxx miles, so I still got around 30K left right?) Also, are the airbox and fuel filter something that I can easily check and clean myself as a non-mechanic?

my most MPG's come from cruising at 65ish and never touching the brakes to slow down, basically using the engine to brake. But I will say I only drive like that when Im very low on fuel! 27.5 is the most Ive seen and It was on the NJ turnpike from south NJ to NYC. But typically I get 22-24 on highway with 24ish at 75.
