well if your wiling to spend the cash, the best lifts (IMO) are Rotary lifts - best build quality around but you pay a premium. I think a 5000lbs capacity 2 poster goes for about $4000

Why kind of lift are you looking for though? Two-post, four-post, portable, permanent, low-rise, etc. There are tons of different kinds of lifts.

Garage lift

I have have had a Rotary four post lift for about 5 years. I looked at several brands and this is a superior product. Many of the competitor brands are built with inferior materials and less safety features in mind.

If you are going to move a car in and out of the garage below the lift like I do, you want a lift that is a reliable and safe as they can be. Go with Rotary, you won't be disappointed.

That costco lift is Mickey mouse if you ask me. For that kinda cash and u only get to lift the vehicle 4 feet!? Get at least a full size lift and simply lift your car as high as your garage ceiling will allow. I bet you will get it a bit higher than the Costco one.

Curious why someone would want to pick a 4 post instead of a 2 post? Weight ratings for both seem similar.

Four post lifts tend to be used more where you plan to store a vehicle under another vehicle raised up on the lift. Four posts offer less functionality if you want to service brakes, tires, and suspension since they normally have ramps the vehicle is driven onto. You see 4-post lifts in muffler shops alot because most of them don't do anything but exhaust work so the wheels never need to come off. I've had an assymetric Rotary Lift in my garage for about 8 years now and couldn't be happier. If you like to work on your car, there is nothing better than having a lift in your garage!!!

When considering lifts for home garages, you need to think of available ceiling height, quality and thickness of concrete where posts for the lift will be set, and availability of a good 230V single phase electrical source in the garage.
