In Car and Driver's review, both the Audi S4 and BMW M3 are quicker than the Mercedes-Benz C32 AMG from 0-60 mph.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
The M3 and CLK55 have the same CURB weights and the CLK55 has a lot lot more torque and quite a bit more HP. Unless he launches with SMGII in S6 any CLK55 will walk an M3 easily.
Be warned of BMW FUDGY numbers on the weights on the website. They dont add the 75kg for driver + luggage like MB and most other car makers do.
forget about arguing.. the m3 and c32 are pretty much equal.. ofcourse id rather chose the c32 because not only is it powerful, it is very comfortable as well. but... i dont think an arguement about which car is faster, between an m3 owner and a c32 owner will ever end.... its kinda useless to even bother... being the c32 owner, you should have enough class just to not reply to his remarks.

C32 = torquey, everyday driver, smooth, straight line menace.
M3 = handles on rails, high revver, twistie heaven.
They are both very different cars for different purposes. No one is better than the other. It just depends on what the driver is looking for. Different strokes for different folks.
Agreed.

I would call it a WONDERFULLY communicative chassis. The C32 and any Mercedes for that matter handles much better than people give the car credit for.
Take a look at this video with Bernd Schneider he does a lap of the ring in under 9 minutes with AT LEAST 3 other passengers in a C32 and the car is PERFECTLY poised. No flincing no unpredictable movements from the car NOTHING. It handles really well.
Yes a BMW has a significant edge in terms of driver feedback but that does not automatically qualify it as a better handling car.
People are used to the old stody image that MB has and that image needs to go. Its just good to see proof finally coming out that dismiss's that image. Pity the idea has not seeped into the general public just yet.
Take a look at the CLK55 vs the M5, the CLK55 holds its own. Besides that the multi piston calipers would also help out on extended track events, this coming from the company obssessed with brake fade
I wouldn't call the M3 twisty heaven. Yes it handles well but its much to heavy to be defined as twisty heaven....

The CLK55 vs. M5 track race was a great indication that AMG is not inferior to BMW's M. Very impressive times by the CLK55. And like you said, the image of MB being a slow luxury car for old/rich people needs to go. And I think it is.
MB is really pushing the HP race with it's V-12TT. The E60 M5 due out next year even needs an upgraded V-10 engine to keep up with MB's V8 Kompressor. IMO, if BMW would stop with their silly obsession of N/A engines and slap on some turbos, they can really make MB sweat.
BTW thanks for the C32 video. That was amazing. I could probably learn a thing or 2 from the driver
.
