Blue top solenoid c55 info??

It is a good mod for transmission for a c55?
It is dangerous for the life of transmission?
How long you used this mod and what do you think about that?
Did you need to flash a new tcu?

Yeah, im curious about this as well. To my knowledge later MY W211 E55 has them. Is it really worth it though?

2005 CLK 55 AMG
I changed them myself along with the connector and and the conductor plate. All I can say is : wow. Much crispier shifts. A little harsh at low speeds in sport mode but very nice in the confort mode. It feels like putting a shift kit in the tranny. I've had it for about a year and it has really eliminated the sluggish/slipping feel from the tranny. No need to reflash anything and I don't think it will harm the transmission since there is less slip between shifts.

The little bolt for the leaking connector was stripped ie overtightened in the plate. The plate was still working though.

I had planned on doing it, but I had heard the shifts were rough when coming to a stop so I changed my mind. I may change them out now and deal with it since I'm making quite a bit more power than stock.

It is actually a good idea to change the conductor plate while you already have the valve body out, I've heard they are prone to failure.

I've been looking for someone who changed to the blues and did the work. Was there any sort of gasket between the valve body and transmission case?

no gasket

Here are the instructions...

SOUTHERN HOTROD, LLC NAG1-SIP “Shift Improvement Package”
Install instructions


1- Drain and remove transmission pan
2- Disconnect transmission electrical connector
3- Remove plug adaptor
4- Remove transmission filter
5- Remove 10 valve body bolts
6- Remove valve body
7- Remove “Working Pressure” and “Shift Pressure” solenoids (Brown tops)
8- Install new “Blue top” solenoids Torque to 8 N-m
9- Reinstall valve body and torque to 8 N-m (Make sure to line up the manual valve with the shift lever)
10- Install filter
11- Install Transmission pan and torque to 8 N-m
12- Install plug adaptor and torque to 2.5 N-m
13- Reconnect Transmission electrical connector
14- Fill transmission

I've never heard of that “Shift Improvement Package.” Does that change more than just the solenoids? I can't get on their web site right now, it says under construction.

Is 240 270 00 89 still the latest part number? Sounds like they're very easy to put in looking at pictures of transmission rebuilds on here. I've done the trans service before on this thing and I've still got plenty of fluid so I wouldn't have to buy any more.

Thats interesting you say that, i wonder what the differences are internally? I guess they flow more fluid? Can you provide me with part numbers?

I have always wondered that myself. I have never seen anyone that can give specific details on the differences. One thing I know for sure is that someone screwed up at the factory on the initial design our cars LAG really bad when shifting at quick launches. Im surprised there isnt a TSB or software flash that fixes it. 91RS I think the part# is correct because I remember seeing it posted before since it was a 240 (maybach) chassis numbered part.

The difference looks to me like bigger orifice so more fluid = more pressure.

The only problem I still have is Mercedes never listed these part#'s as replacements as many are suggesting and the fact that hooleys trans blew (could be unrelated). 203-270-00-89 is the newest most current part# available for the pressure solenoids which may or may not be blue tops. I would think they are since people said they did have blue tops in their 2006's I am curious to know what part# are on the 2006's that have blue tops. I am going to order one and see what it looks like. It could quite possibly be the correct updated blue top, instead of the 240 part#

From what I've seen, E55s came with blue tops. Hooley's trans died because of the ungodly amount of power he was making and many drag runs!

I just looked up a 2006 E55 EPC and the 203 270 00 89 number is going to be a brown top. 240 270 00 89 is the latest blue top number.

How did you figure 203-270-00-89 was a brown top? I know that the other number is for an E55, but I do not see it listed for the C55. Which is odd if people are saying they are the new improved ones.

edit I see what you mean now, but they are not replacements by what EPC says they are for a different transmission. If it was updated it would say replaced by or optional with. The fact that it says up to and as of means it's not the correct part for that application. What we need to figure out between the two is what is different in the trans. Is the trans modified or is it just the valve body that's different?

I put my brown tops back in after a few months with the blue tops. Shifts are only firmer at low throttle. full throttle shifts are the same as stock. downshifts are harsh and blew out my brand new motor mounts within 2 weeks. Not a good mod IMO.

If the TCU can be reprogrammed not to shift harshly during downshift it would be ok. also, when dropping into passing gear on the freeway, the clutch is let out before the engine can rev up causing a buck - similar to a bad driver trying to downshift a stickshift.

ouch imagine what it was doing to the trans. thanks for the info I had a feeling it was a bad idea. or mb would have issued a tsb or supersession of the part if it was better.

Ohh, now I remember. I guess I won't be doing them then, I forgot all the other details. I guess I'll see about the Eurocharged TCM tune.
