Transmission solinoids solved all my problems!

This is a must have mod for people who's car are seeing delay between shifts and kickdown.

As a follow up the the Southern Hotrods shift improvement pack.

I got my pressure valves installed today and this literally fixed ALL my transmission issues. The car sifts fast and firm no more feeling like I'm bouncing off the rev limiter before the car decides to shift. No more shift delay when the kickdown is engaged. My car is running better than it ever has!

I dont have a pic of the new valve, but the valve port in the 240 270 00 89 (blue top) is about 3 to 4 time the size of the brown top.

Here is a pic of the stock brown port so just imagine the port opening is about 3 4 times this size.


I have a feeling most AMG's upto 2005 and maybe 2006 have the brown tops. All I know is the car really came alive today for the first time since I put the supercharger on it.

I was ready to pay big money to have this problem solved and a few hundred buck later the problems with my trans are all gone. There is no doubt I will pic up some 10ths in the 1/4 with this little mode.

The upshift are good and firm as well as the down shifts. This is well worth the money if your car does not have these valves.

Remember its part # 240 270 00 89 and top of the valve is stamped with 240 277 00 98. thay are available at your local MB dealer.

lol wow nice find bro but im more focused right nnow on turning my 06 c230 ss into a track car...but if i get to my dadz c55 later i think ill hit u up for one of these !!

You dont have to hit me up for these. Just hit the Mercedes dealer up its an MB part. the valves retail for around $215 each, you need two. some people found them as low as $150 each online.

Its easy to do if you got a lift. even after draining the trans pan, fluid was still leaking all over the place. its a messy job. Its not hard to do. Matt and I banged it out in a few hours. had to wait for the fluid to stop draining.

It can be done in the drive way but it would be a total pain in the butt. Not to mention your arm would go numb from reinstalling the valve body.

You got to feel it now its a total maniac. I started spinning the wheels big time after a shift at 60mph! Haven't felt that in long time. It got scary really quick. This was just what I needed. I'm super happy with this little mod! Tell you what its a great feeling when you find the answer to a problem that has been with you for a long time.

It's a Maybach part# what does that part do actually? Do you think it could cause any problems in the future with the trans? I would be scared to tamper with it since a tranny is lil expensive

I think it should be noted that this mod will not have a night and day effect on a car that is not experiencing transmission shifting problems or near the limits of the transmission.

mine has a delay when shifting between gears if i hit it kickdown while i am driving

but when i hit it from 0, it shifts smoothly

so is it because if this ?

I wish I new more about transmissions. I think it will remain a mystery as to what cars this will benefit. This is a job for Splinter. That guy can find out anything. It really doesn't make your car kickdown faster it just makes it grab alot more frim.

I just got off the phone with Rich, the owner of Dyno-comp, and he say I am running the TCU tune on my currant TCU and my other TCU (yes I have 2) is sitting in the office.

I think these valves made this TCU tune i'm running just come alive and finally work. My currant line pressure is set to the max value. So now with these bigger valve/solenoids installed it is making for some wild (awesome) shifting. However you can deff feel the added line pressure when the car down and up shifts, even at low speeds.

I'm interested in this mod. My tranny shifts like a luxo-boat, like every other benz I've had, and I'd really like the shifts to be a little quicker/more precise and less "lumpy".

But I have a few questions:

1: Sounds like this mod is definitely applicable to the 722.6, right?

2: For those of us who don't have their own lift or grease pit at home like some of you ballin ba$tards around here, what would be a fair price for the install at an indy or dealer?

3: Also, what drivability difference do you notice?

4: How firm are the shifts?

I can't stand the way the F1/SMG/DCT trannies shift, and am really NOT going for that kind of effect at all. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind quicker shifts or a more responsive tranny, but I'm not looking for the car to jolt the fillings out of my teeth with every shift like SMG does.

5: Is there any tranny adaptation reset required, or does the new part just start doing its job immediately?

I think that covers everything I want to know.

maybe you can do a foto writeup of the mod. it sounds very interesting and an inexpensive upgrade. does the tranny need to be reprogrammed after the install? also mine is stone stock tranny. will this upgrade show a noticealble difference?

Yes and only the 722.6, I'm going to track down when this valve came into service so we know what cars come with it.

Your looking at about 2-3 hours labor from start to finish including trans draining time

I thought I was not running my TCU that has a TCU tune on in (I have 2 TCU's) Once the valves were installed the notice was instant, both up and down shift are firm and you can feel them for sure.

4: How firm are the shifts?
These valves have allowed (IMO) the TCU tune that did not work due to what I feel now was a flow restriction. To now now becoming a very aggressive set up. So again the shifts are firm in the upshift when hammering on the gas. They are also firm when braking when say exiting the highway and coming to a stop light.

No reprogramming is needed. I would say this mod needs a few more people to try it. Right now we are 2 for 2 on the two members that have tried it, myself included. From the moment I bought the parts I felt I was taking a small gamble. I was asking myself questions like. Does my car already have these valves?.. and, I hope my old valves are brown top. All the small risks I took seemed to pay off.

At this point in my modding journey it seemed to be worth the uncertain risk of only a few $100

In my situation, I could see the shifts becoming or mimicking the slight feeling of a manual gear box. Could that annoy someone? sure.

Just trying to figure out if it's for me or not. The majority of my driving is sitting in traffic, so if the shifts were jerking me back and forth at 10 mph, I would say I'd have to pass on that lol.

You mentioned that you have the pressure adjusted to the max, could that be lowered to suit the individual driver needs and preferences? It sounds like a great mod and I'm hoping it's not all or nothing.
