I noticed the decline on prices for C32s and been looking around. I know someone who might be selling their c32 with 160k miles for $7,000. I told her that I'd buy it from her when she's ready.
She is the 2nd owner within the family and had the car since 80k miles. Never had any problems as claimed by her and her uncle. I know the common problem and asked them about it and was told it was never noticed. Very clean body with a small ding on passenger side from SUV door, I assume. They have always service their cars at the dealership and followed all maintenance recommendations. No oil leak or weird noise. I drove it and it feels like a new car. I'm just worried about the supercharger, motor, transmission as of now. I know it's a use car and I'm taking a risk at 160k but at $7,000, is it a fair risk? Would you do it? She's wants to sell because gas prices and mpg around 16-22 isn't rocking her boat. Lol

I don't get your intentions of that question. Yes, it's a c32. Are you shocked that it got up to 160k problem free or are you shocked that c32 nowadays aren't worth much?

That's exactly what the car is worth xhife. Many members on here are delusional about the value of these cars. They're not priceless collectors items to anyone but the owners and that reality always sets in when it's time to sell. I say jump on it and drop another 3 grand on mods and you'll have a pretty quick little sedan to get some groceries in.
chris, my thoughts exactly. I'll give it a better run down before I jump the gun.
Anything else I should look for besides the common common problems?

I have been trying to sell my 2002 C32 for a month, and I can,t even get people to come out and look at it! I am only asking 8.5k, 155k miles. and people want to offer 7k. I am the original owner, and had all work done at dealer. I may have to settle for thta low of a price if that is where the markert is heading.

ExploreOP, there is also a black one for sale, he's asking for trades right now, but a few months ago he had it for 10 grand and once i talked to him he quickly went down to $9400. He has had the supercharger replaced, it was clean from what i remember.
I just search the vehicle FS section and saw many Lower mile c32 sell for a 7,000$-9,000. I might just keep my eyes out.

Just because one person desperately tries to sell a car for significantly cheaper than the market, it doesn't mean that that is the market value for the car.
FWIW, I got $8500 offer on mine as trade-in last week and mine has 110K miles.
To OP, I would honestly be hesitant to jump on any AMG with 160K miles. I would check the service history and what has recently been replaced. Check GT4awd's threads for things that may go wrong on a C32 and how much it would have costed him if he did not replace them himself.

She has all the service records for typical oil changes, plugs, and fluid changes. Never had to replace anything.

Then things will go wrong in the near future. At 160K, I would budget for ic pump, engine mount, tranny mount, suspension bushing and cooling system stuff as well. Originally Posted by xhife

These cars are not cheap to maintain, especially if you bring it to a dealer.

It's nice that it didn't give the previous owner any headaches and all, but at 160K it can come crashing onto you one by one, if not the same time. Originally Posted by xhife

Good luck.
Wow, I thought the coupe devalued badly.
Well, since they never 'had' to do anything, you most certainly will.
I'd look over the maint. records closely.
Original alternator, starter, supercharger?
Transmission EVER flushed?
Ha, offer 5, flush ALL the fluids, and send the above items out for rebuild for
reliable operation. And find an ASP pulley...oh yeah.

Good to know these cars can run to such high milage without issues. My car has 75,000 miles and I already drive it as little as possible to keep the milage down. I wouldn't even consider a car with close to 120,000 miles, much less 160,000. I would pay more for a car with less milage. It does seem like a lot of people here have higher milage C32's, but to me 160,000 is VERY high. Car should be in need of having many things rebuilt at that point. These motors are quite sensitive, a high milage poorly maintained motor is the last thing you want. Oil changes and spark plug changes are so general in terms of maintainance they should be a no brainer and not considered in terms of "well maintained". There are many other components that require inspection. If you're serious about the car, maybe get Mercedes to star certify the car. I think the cost is about $150.
