So I noticed a weird sound coming from my engine, so I popped the hood while it was running. And noticed there was a pulley that had the v belt that goes around all the other ones, and it was wobbling and shaking. It makes a pretty significant sound while driving, so I hopped on the forums and found a very helpful diagram which let me pinpoint the correct one. It seems to be the coolant pump. Now my question is, what could cause it to do this, and is it something major that needs to be looked at right away? Last night on my way home i had the coolant light come on saying to top it up, which I did.
I'm going to add the picture, but you can find it in this post and it is number 8 on the diagram.

If someone could let me know whether or not its safe to drive it, I have to be hitting the road in an hour
And if there is a diy or quick fix to it, thats always good on the wallet :P
Thanks guys.

if the pulley is wobbling its best NOT to drive it. the pulley could seize come off causing way more damage then the cost of the pulley (about 40$)
Forgot to add:
I had checked the 4 bolts that hold it on and they are tight. Also, I put my hand under to take a feel, and there was coolant leaked around it... Isn't looking good so far (n) I'm gonna swing it by the shop tomorrow, hopefully it is just the pulley...

I just replaced mine at around 70,000 miles. The wobbling is shaft play on the water pump. There's no cheap fix, you have to replace the water pump. It's around $400-$500 for the part alone depending on where you buy it. I got a Bilstein one. I don't know how much labour would cost as I had mine replaced when I did my needswings ASP pulley kit.

My local auto parts store has new water pumps for $86. Granted not a mercedes OEM part but good enough for me.
I wish your local parts store was in toronto
all the shops here had no stock of water pumps or they were only about $30 less then MB. oh well you win some you lose some
