Swapped Koni adjustable shocks

Not happy with what I found, my upper strut mounts were completely cracked with 45K on them. I found the stock AMG's shocks and struts to be almost as stiff as the Koni's at full firm. No real noticeable ride difference on the street, on the track, the upper bushings gave out causing a lot of oversteer. Now to pull everything apart again.

So your saying you didn't like the Koni's at all? That's odd

Not that odd as these Koni's were discussed on the forum back 3-5 years ago. Back then we said they were not good for the C32 as they were too soft. For a C55 they would be less appropriate.

I definitely missed that thread since I've only had my car for a year. Regardless, what are some shock upgrades that would benefit out cars?

+1 that was my first upgrade to the car, and definitely one of the best upgrades you can do in my opinion.

eclectic assortment of cars
Any tire interference/clearance issues with the KWs? Or just dealt with the same as with the other brands, ie. add a spacer and good to go?

Incidentally, I just bought a set of KW Variant 3s for my S2000. Just need to find some free time to install them. Looking forward to trying them out!

The KW setup is pretty pricey though... This, and a good set of tires should make the car handle much better than it does now.

My verdict is out, I am going to leave them on the car for this weekends autox and try and dial them in, I have upper shock mount issues that may be softening them. I wanted a softer ride on the street without getting rid of the AMG springs, it made a small difference. We'll see if they are stiffer on the track.

Did my second AutoX with the shocks at full firm, car was uncontrollable, instant oversteer without warning.

After doing a lot of reading, I am going to run them soft instead of full firm to be more compliant and see how that works.

Well there's your problem. Try running them half as soft as you had them. I'm sure bump steer was horrible. At full stiff, I doubt any dampening was occurring at all.

So when you say the car has oversteer are you talking about when you gas it out of the corners? Do you have a limited slip diff (LSD) installed? Are you running with ESP on or off?

The car had oversteer on corner exit and entry, off throttle on throttle. So after a lot of research and ignoring people at the track, I did a track night last night with the rears set at a half turn and fronts at full, feels a lot better planted. On the street I run them at full soft. I think they may work out.
