There's some AWESOME info here!

Waldig cleaned out an old intercooler and it flows so much better!

I can't imagine the IC getting dirty unless it was leaking coolant and got junked up. If that is the case you would be replacing the IC anyway. If it is not leaking then only filtered air is passing through the fins and it should not be clogged up.

Interesting to see the crappy workmanship (rework) on these.

I did not see the post on the Crossfire forum- did he repair the leak?

After repairing the leaks he's going to convert the stock intercooler from a triple pass to single pass configuration. The goal is to speed up the flow to take advantage of a larger heat exchanger. I have a leaking intercooler and a new one ordered. Rob @ Needswings is going to flow test a new factory intercooler to compare with what Woody has in his shop. It's likely that a better intercooler option will be coming soon depending on results from these experiments. Time will tell.

Rob has a coated Garrett for sale:http://www.needswings.com/New-Garret...icthermal.aspx is that an OEM one coated? I am confused.(again....like always...)
Is there a way to clean our stock ones without cutting it open; if so with what? 10 years and 200kms I am sure to have some crap in there.
Subscribed anyway...great stuff.

Garret makes the oem intercooler for Mercedes. It sounds like they just got old oem intercoolers and just have them refurbished, with some slightly better cooling properties. Its still probably cheaper then buying it from the dealer.

Actually, I got mine from parts.com, which turned out to be a MB dealer in Chicago. Brand new was $900.

Another incredible thread to follow about fabricating their own single pass replacement IC.

Well, I'm officially on the list for one and will share my experiences. Spoke to Rudy earlier today and he's a great guy and well respected on the boards.

Looking forward to getting my C32 back on the road with a better solution than the stock offering.

I pulled my OEM one out recently and cleaned it up: the amount of crud that came out was unreal. I also thermal coated locally whilst it was out. If mine pops a leak I will be straight on to that though. Looks great!

WTH? I hope it was a used one you installed last time.

MAn, I WISH this was available when mine crapped out on me! I just bought a new OEM for $900.

It was indeed a used one, thank goodness! At least I got to use it for a full year. Come to think of it, I replaced it by myself on April 2012.

I will also be replacing all of the gaskets, SC bearing, valve cover gasket, NGK spark plugs one heat range colder, and OEM Bosch spark plug wires. The C32 is not my daily driver anymore and with 121K miles, I might as well do preventative maintenance.

I noticed a performance drop with leaking intercooler, was it the same for you? I used Dynolicious app yesterday and only pulled 250 whp and 6.3 sec 0-60. It would pull 340ish whp and sub 5 sec 0-60 before the leak.

How long did it take you to get the intercooler? I paid for my order yesterday, but I would imagine it will take more than two weeks, because it has to be fabricated?

That looks amazing btw, did you install it already?

It was all over the map - I heard people saying 4 weeks, but got a call after 2 weeks saying it was fab'd up and ready to ship, took another week to get here.

It's sitting on the backburner right now, will most likely get around to it in the mid of summer.
