Did I install my wheel bearings incorrectly?
Hey All,
I installed my front wheel bearings yesterday and have been experiencing a noisy-er ride than usual.
There is a noise that cycles at around 20-30 mph, then goes away after that.
Also, I'm still feeling some sort of vibration which is why I started the wheel bearing project in the first place.
There is no play in the wheels when thrusting at 6 and 12 o'clock positions.
I looked through many install threads and did everything according to what I found - especially backing off the retainer nut 90 degrees after the hub is tight enough to barely turn.
What should I do? Is there anything I missed?
I'd hate to take it into a shop as they tend to treat cars fairly poorly and I baby my C32...
This forum has helped me greatly so I thank you for the help in advance!

I had a hum around 60 after doing new bearings. I tore down again and found that one was not tight despite setting and backing off 1/4 turn. I tightened again and backed off 1/8 and it is now prefect. Turn your wheel when you hear the hum. A wheel bearing will hum under load, turn left and load right bearing, turn right to load left bearing.

Yes, both of them.
These are indeed humming. Not to loud, but there is still a noise.
Alright. I'm just afraid of going to tight since they can overheat and fail. I've already tightened twice.
So if I'm hearing humming that means I should tighten?

The old school way I used to use was to put the wheel back on and tighten the adjuster nut until I got the slightest amount of freeplay when rocking the wheel at 6:00 and 12:00. The washer behind the nut should just be movable with a screwdriver.
Now days I use a dial indicator and the MB spec for end play.
