Any AZ members out there?

Hey,
I went to the Pavillion Cruise In Scottsdale last night for the first time. I would guess about 300-400 cars. With the exception of my car and a sick wide body SL that rolled through, not one other MB. I know C32bob is from the area, but out of town for a while.
Any other W203 around here? I live in Mesa, looking to meet up with others.
Thanks, Mike.
Moderator- can I duplicated this thread on the non-AMG W203 forum?

They're still having that show? Guess I need to spend more time here. The last time I went to it was something like 1995.

Was there a lot of old American stuff?

I'm from Gilbert, I've met bob as well, really nice dude. I was going to go out to the pavs with him before he left town but some things came up and i wasnt able to make it. I usually dont make it out there durring the summer, standing out in 100 degree weather for hours isnt too pleasing but maybe once it starts cooling off we could put a little meet together up there.

Hello,

I'm in north Phoenix. My friend goes there often with his - dare I say it - E34 M5. I should be careful because I have one in my garage too but the C55 is my new daily :-). Would definitely be interested if there was a meet sometime.

I think it starts about 4:50 until about 10:00. I got there about 7 last weekend and it was packed. From 8-9 a bunch more cars showed up.
I should be there this weekend if the weather holds out. Silver C32.

Nice cars, the E34 M5s. The American wife had an E28 M5 since 1989. The S38 motor was nice, different than our big lazy V-8s. At least the C55 doesn't have timing chain issues. I still have the 3/4" drive torque wrench that I bought to replace the timing chain on her car.

I love the E34s. I had a 1995 white 525i, then onto a 1997 E39 540i, full AC Schnitzer. The Bimmers were good for me, but I feel the Benz is a better overall car.

There's something special about that S38! Or shall I say the $38!

I still absolutely love my E34 M5. This is my first Benz actually and I love it too but they are two totally different cars with very different missions. My M5 is a Dinan 3.8 stroker and matches if not bests the C55 in HP and TQ but that's all BS really. It's the difference in how the M5 and C55 motor deliver that power. Both are wonderful examples of exquisite German engineering. I'm just happy (and lucky) to own two rare cars that total production runs equals less than 4,000 units in the U.S.

I just drove the M to work yesterday and the moment you drive off, it's just a different feeling. And the way the power builds right up to redline, accompanied by the sound is just raw, and tremendously satisfying. Same for the C55. Effortless power AND comfort AND easy maintenance AND great mileage wrapped up in a sleeper package. PERFECT!

When we bought the E28 in 1989 they quoted a replacement cylinder head at $15k! I don't think that even AMG can top that.

All things considered our M5 wasn't that bad maintenance-wise. Worst bits were front suspension bushings and brake rotors. Went through five sets of rotors on warranty even though the car was never tracked.

Crazy but about right and but i agree on reliability. it has been the most reliable and capable car I've owned thus far. Most of the maintenance stuff stuff like valve lash adjustments, tunes and TB balancing was done with local friends experienced in the S38. Even with that it was about $2,000 per year in normal up-keep maintenance! Still it was cheaper than a car payment so no complaints.

Basically a full rebuild of an S38 would run anywhere from about $12k and up, depending on what you are doing. The previous owner of my M5 did a rebuild at 100K miles after seriously bad leak down issues in Cyl 4. It cost him $20k. Unfortunately, it is said to be the inevitable fate of every S38. It really is a work of art engine and worth keeping it going given the right resources, time and of course, money.

We sold our '88 at 175k miles and used the same amount of oil then as when we bought it. Original clutch too. The wife is pretty easy on cars. It's just as well as the two piece head looks like a pain to R&R.

I still have the factory S38 valve adjust tool if you ever need one. That's one place where the C55 beats the M5, no messing around with valve shims.

101 and Scottsdale. I have been told that the caliber of cars is much better at this meet than the pavillions. There is even a Veyron that shows up once and a while. Here is the facebook page:

Hey Bob! Hope all is well with you. Let's get together for sure. I want to check out cars and coffee, or we could get a meet together a the pavillions. My son and I went last night, and it was decent. The only other Mercs were a sl500 and a c63.

Your car is worth more than what he is looking to spend, but great idea! I think he has decided on a E36 coupe, non M3. I do not want his first car to be over 200hp. We will mod for sure!

I see, prefer selling to a friend or relative for a fair price.. Agreed, car is too fast for a starter.
