driving my c32 to its full potenial

Hey..

I have recently purchased a C32 AMG although having owned mercedes this has been my first AMG and now after 2months of driving ive come to grips with the power of the car.

Ive always had a daily driver cdi and the cars that ive had to have "fun" with have alwasy been manual, ive always been alittle scared of the autos cornering abilities, downshifting and general reliability of the box. am i right to be worried? last thing i want to do is blow it up.

Getting to the point any of you guys have any tips using the tiptronic to its full potential? and can it withstand regular abuse? Any other tips to driving the 32 hard will be much appreciated.

Thanks

What year is your car? 2002 TCU software works differently than later years.

It won't blow up, very strong and reliable. It changes up and down itself if need be in manual mode so you can't over rev it. Use the crappy side to side thing to select your gear and hold it to prevent it doing whatever it feels like.

Thats what i dont get, the gear will change automatically once it hits the rev limiter right ? So whats the point in using the tiptronic? :S
Can i not get it to hold gears when cornering?

My cars a uk spec 2001

Weathers been really wet here recently so once it drys up im going to jump out and have a play with it

Because when you are cornering hard your revs aren't increasing. I would corner at about 3500-4000rpm ready to accelerate out, if you are increasing revs that much during the corner then you are hitting the corner too slow otherwise the back end will be coming unstuck. Bouncing off the limiter does not help you.

The benefit is that you have power on hand ready to accelerate and the transmission wont change on you as long as you aren't hitting redline or below 1000rpm or there abouts.

Prior to 2003, the Tiptronic would work as follows: Whatever gear you put it in is not the gear that you get. The TCU will make that number of gears available to you and will recalculate the gear ratio on the fly. But you are still in the gear that the car thinks is better for you now.
2003 and on, whatever gear you put the car in is the gear that you get.
For all years, the ECU/TCU will override your selection if you are about to get into trouble.
You can also get the Eurocharged or other vendor TCU tune and that will give you Manual mode with more control the gears.
