Thumbs up yeah

yeah baby!
i got an 03 too!
and i won my friends 02 e46 m3
M3 need some skill to get faster than C32.

MotorTrend have a new article on our 03 C32, not 02s!
that's the only magazine have reviews on 03 C32. the numbers are impressive... compared to 02 reviews done by C&D and R&T.

are 03 C32 faster?... or 02 US spec C32 is slower?
magazine in europe and asia get 4.7 and 4..8 sec on our cars...

maybe it has to do with octane of the gas? if they tested the C32 in cali with 91, it would be much slower than with 93 or 94 elsewhere.

Octane Myth

I keep seeing this myth perpetuated on this web site and others, that if you use higher octane, you'll have faster time, better acceleration, etc. You won't. If you use the octane your engine is designed for, that's the best you'll do. Octane ain't a "power" additive. Octane is an anti-knock compound. If the "octane myth" were true, we'd see horsepower curves from manufacturers or others with octane on one axis and horsepower on the other. Ever see one? Of course not. Horsepower doesn't vary with octane, above that for which your engine was designed. Only exception is if you have excessive carbon deposits on your valves, then you get what's called "octane creep", that is, a car which is designed for 89 octane will only run without knock at 92 or 93.
You can put this myth on the shelf with the "K&N Filter" myth. That filter doesn't improve performance, either. We've seen some dyno results posted here and elsewhere whichproved that fact.
Off my soap box, and back to driving the hell out of my C32!

RapidG - What you said is true, but only if your ECU is not programmed to use higher octane gas. For a ECU programmed for 91 octane, it should be able to compensate if 87 octane is put in accidently by backing the timing, so knock is avoided but performance would be dramatically decreased. By putting in 93 octane, when the ECU is only programmed to 91 there would be no difference in timing or performance compared to 91 because the ECU wouldn't know better. Since the C32 ECU can be switched to a 93 octane gas setting, there will be performance gains over 91 octane.

many cars, especially cars that run bosch motronic systems do benefit from higher levels of octane, because it can adjust. I have seen dyno plots increase with only boosts in octane. So not all cars benefit, but many can, even with stock ecus.

The C32 ECU is set to 87 or 89 (pretty sure 89) by default. There is also a 91 and 93 setting. When I had mine set to 93 there was a slight but noticable increase in performance.

That said, I don't think you're going to go from 13.5 to 13.2 just on octane tweaks.

I don't think the original 13.2 person said anything about the tires they ran?

Ronnie, the dealer changes it with the diagnostic computer. If you want yours changed I suggest you makes friends with one of the knowledgable techs at your MB Dealer.

Ronnie, no it defaults to the lowest, which is 87 or 89.

13.07 bone stock car with p-zero.I have nitto drag tires now and can not get a good 60ft.I think too low of a tire pressure hurts the 60ft.I will try them with more air to see if I can run my times again. Thanks

I used sunoco 94.But tonight I went to the track with the nittos and only ran 13.7 at 103.The car has ran slower ever since I changed the tires. The side wall height may have some effect on the tranny.I will drop it off to see if it threw any codes for the trans and see what happens but I need those 13.0 back.On a side note I saw a E55 run a 12.4 at 118 tonight looked real good but I thik I will do the evo sport upgrades and go with the 375 whp for about 25g less!

i just went to the track again with nittro drags and pulled a 13.1@106 and 1.9 60ft (hoping for 1.8) -man your car must have been real hyper that day to run a 13.0
