Cool Basic tuning advice for a newbie

Hello chaps. I'm based in the UK and after test driving a C32 am smitten. I'm waiting for the right colour to come up before I buy one. I'm coming from the world of modded Jap turbo cars so am a little addicted to modding. Whilst modding a variety of cars over the last 6 years I've been stung and disapponted many times. So am trying to preempt that this time.
Can someone explain to me whether the C32 can be performance tuned, the pathway and the gains. I'm talking less than $6k in total so no engine transplants please.
ps congratulations on having a bbs so passionate about the AMG marque.

Hi S4.
I've checked their website but it does'nt seem to explain what they do. I'd be happy with even less than that ie 380ish BHP to keep safe. Any idea what they actually do ie exhaust, pulleys,ECU remap etc etc
Many thanks.

i don't think Evosport really lists it on their website, but they offer "Stage I" and "Stage II" upgrades for our C32. the Stage I includes Overdrive-Pullies (with intercooler resovoir upgrade), and a tuned ECU. price is $3500 installed according to one member and the consistent total is about 390-400 flywheel horsepower, give or take 10. i think installation takes a day. also, you can upgrade to an SL55 intake (splitter, or full system i believe) which is a very simple upgrade, i am told, and is only about $400. only thing is, you can buy just the splitter from Evosport, or the full system from your dealer, and i have heard it is a "do-it-yourself" install. realistically, with the pullies, chip, and intake, expect about 400+hp, give or take a little, but on pump gas and the price, it's an awesome upgrade. i will do evosport stage I soon. i think it's the best bet. exhaust, in terms of a muffler or catback, doesn't seem to yield much power for the price. i'm planning on getting a brabus exhaust and removing my resonator just for sound, but i do not expect to gain any power.

stage II i think is $7000 installed, and includes other things such as headers and ignition plasma coils, etc. yields claimed 430hp, maybe more, but install takes longer. this is too out of my budget for now, and stage I is good enough for me, but if you do this upgrade, your car will be incredibly fast.

the C32 has great modability, in my opinion, because of the simplicity of the modifications and the price. very easy to get 380hp i think. very easy.

Roozy, thanks I'll check that website out later.
99, I'm trying understand the logic of the tuning pathway of the supercharged engine. I gather that the supercharger is purely mechanical and not controlled by the ECU. In that case remapping the ECU on the C32 will be like remapping a normally aspirated car and therefore the gains minimal. Unless the remapping is to cope with the changes caused by the other mods ie pulleys.
Can anyone tell approx the gains with the pulleys alone?
As for uprated intercoolers/aftercoolers, I'm also wondering whether the gains will be as significant in my country as ambient temps out here are lower.
Can anyone explain to me in a little more detail the following
1) What do the pulleys do and what gains?
2) Are the intercoolers air or water cooled?
3)How much can I do ie pulleys, intercoolers, aftercoolers, intakes etc before a remap is neccessary?
4) What is the goal of the remap? To allow the engine to cope with all the above mods?

Sorry about so many questions but as I've said in my first post I've wasted money in the past on mods that have'nt delivered and d'ont want to make the same mistakes again.

Porsche Turbo Stage 4, Cayenne S ... gone C43, C32, ML55 & Ducati 999.
Been in the UK, I will deffenately go with H&S:

http://www.hs-elektronik.com/datenbl...s-c32-amg.html

they claim 376 hp & 485 Nm.
On my car with just the addition of the BMC filters, I got 311 rwhp & 413 rwNm...on 91 octane...and ussing a really consarvative conversion (17% loss) ---> 374 hp & 498 Nm

Where do you get the bmc's? and how much? You gained power from the stock airbox with just bmc filters? What was the baseline power before?

Hi Pierre. Many thanks for that info. Being in the States did you receive the ECU by post and if so did you encounter any problems with its function? How much difference did you notice with just the remapped H and S ECU?
Many thanks for your help.
