WOT shutdown
Hey All,
Driving home about 15 min ago and went to pass a truck that pulled out in front of me. There was a car in the right lane so I hit kick down to avoid the truck and the car in the right lane. It was about to shift and just shut down. I still had lights and was able to shift the car. I thought at first that I had lost the trans. Once I realized that the car was shut off I parked, turned the key to off and re-fired it. The car ran fine all the way home but now I have a check engine light. Of course my ODB2 scanner wont connect to my phone for some reason.
I am going to get the codes one way or the other but I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before.
The car has run great for the last for months.

I still haven't been able to get the code scanner to work but this morning there were no codes. I did not got WOT to see if it would come back though. Ill order a new Bluetooth dongle and go from there. I have a sneaking suspicion that it is the MAF.

I had something similar happen to me a while ago, but instead of shutting off, the engine was at idle for several seconds, then came back. Much more pronounced than the stability control action, and this was just getting on the throttle lightly into an intersection. The ECU code was something about the throttle sensor. The car was reliable again after I replaced the whole pedal assembly, but it's been difficult to trust it like before. :>

i had a problem where randomly driving with my e46 usually on highway the car would completely shut off...had some scary moments on the freeway where I had to pull over from left lane all the way to the right with no power.. it only happened about 4 or 5 times never figured it out
give it WOT in your neighborhood and see if it happens..maybe check for a pending code at autozone or anywhere else you can borrow an OBDII

Problem resolved. I was unable to connect my OBD adapter and though it was faulty (cheap ebay dongle) so I could get the code. The other day I disconnected that battery to pull a power wire through the firewall. I reconnected everything and went for a run but didn't try wot. On my way to do some service I found a big open road and let it have it. No problems at all any more I can use the kick down and rev it to the limiter with no hesitation or cutting out.

That sucks I would say check your fluid and you might as well try disconnecting the battery for 15 min or so. Also check your connector plug for seepage.

Update: I thought this issue was gone but it came back today while I was getting on the freeway
. When the tach hit 5500 rpm it shut down. I had my new code reader with me and pulled a p0335/Crank position sensor. I'm Going to order one today.
Anyone want to buy this thing. Take over my payments and its yours. I see a Lexus IS350 in my future.

It is not "as fast" but as a DD like I said it is close enough to not really make a difference. 3 or 4 10ths is not going to be a huge deal for me.

Replaced the CPS and now I can go to 6200 rpm with no choking or shutdown. The old cps looked to be a cheap aftermarket replacement. There was no bosh or MB log on it anywhere. It didn't give me any of the normal failing cps symptoms though.

This isn't just a case of limp mode? My old 06' C55 would go into limp mode once in a while when i would go WOT and just rev when i hit the gas, like it was in neutral. I had not CEL's. Most reliable and cheapest to maintain car i ever owned.

No, limp mode will not shut the engine down.
