C32 Spare Tire Question

Does your C32 came with a spare tire? What size is that?

Mine don't, I am thinking of getting a 15" collapsible light weight spare tire (originally used in C-Coupe). But I have a concern here, do you know if itfll be able to fit into our rear axle? In an event of a front puncture, I would have to move the 17h rear to front and 15h spare to rear.

I have a 2002 C32 and my dealer provided me with the full size steel spare that they now use in 2003 + models. It's tight, but it fits. I'm sure you can order one...

2002's did not come with the spare tire. 2003's and 2004's have the spare tire. www.c32life.com's FAQ section has a list of all the part number you'll need to retrofit a spare tire into the trunk.

Who needs a spare tire?

The spare adds at least 50 lbs of weight to your car. How about a can of Fix-A-Flat and a AAA membership?

Read this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ght=spare+tire

The spare can come in quite handy. Fix-a-flat doesn't help with large punctures and sidewall damage (easy to come by with performance tires.) Fix-a-flat also voids most tire warranties. And you shouldn't need AAA membership as MB provides roadside assistance.

The previous owner of my car bought a full size spare...it's sitting in the garage ever since I bought the car.

Nix the spare

O.K. so the simple solution for those of us who care about the weight of our cars because we like to haul donkeys is to carry a can of fix-a-flat and MBZ's phone number (at least until the warranty expires, at which point you switch to AAA). The C32 drivers who drive around with a spare in the back are the same guys who put a filter on the pipe of the bong.

Lay off the bong man - roadside assistance has absolutely nothing to do with the warranty. You have it as long as you have the car.

I guess that would be most all 2003+ owners.

You can probably drop some weight by leaving that bong behind. Although it may come in handy while you sit on the side of the road in a dead cell zone. :p

I probably don't really the spare when I am in my country. The problem arises when I drove my car into other European countries, my Star Assist Programme might not be 'so' valid and its kinda sticky especially when you are in a foreign land.

Do you drive your cars into south american countries like Mexico etc?

I also thought of the extra lbs that my car will be lugging with and thatfs why I am thinking of the slim 15h light weight collapsible spare tire MB adopted in C-Coupe

I'd be worried that the collapsible spare could a) clear the front caliper, and b) handle the power at the rear. It took MB a while to come up with the spare for the C32 after 2002 owners started complaining. The main issue was the caliper clearance.

Traction

For traction, at least the added weight is in roughly the right location.

More weight on the rear wheel, means more power to the ground, before the traction control engages.

Drag racers have been known to add weights to the back of the car, to gain traction. Some even use barbell weights, to finely adjust weight over the right tire.

How is Mercedes Road Side assistance going to help if you don't have a spare tire? All that they can do is tow you to a tire shop to have the tire replaced or repaired.

a) There is no way the 15" is gonna clear the front brake calipers. I would have to move the rear to the front 1st.

b) I don't think I will be flooring the baby if I just had a puncture.

50 pounds!?

Whoa, whoa racer boy! Heaven forbid 50 pounds keeps you from racing all those guys yaaaa coulda beat but lost by just a nose! Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

How about a spare and a can of Fix-A-Flat? This way if the damage is beyond good ole Fix-A-Ya-know...you can move on without being stuck for roadside assistance to show up hours later.

Besides racer boy...I would think the one to get there FIRST, would be more important to ya!

Exactly. That's what happened the first time I had a flat. Fix-a-flat could not handle the damage and I had the car towed to the dealer. What a hell...

But I guess for some it's worth it to cut their times by .01 seconds! I'd just take the spare out at the track if it was that big a deal...

a) I don't think the rear will fit on the front (width and offset issues).
b) If you need to make an emergency manuever or if you live where there is snow, you can end up with unintended spin and mixed traction situations where that wheel may put you at risk.
