Vomit at Carlsbad Raceway, Part III

Went back solo this time. Got in 7 or 8 runs. I was curious to see what difference, if any, the Denso Iridium plugs and Magnecor wires would make. I can confirm that what Evosport said re: the benefits of the plug/wire upgrade. The plugs and wires are the only upgrade which I have done since Carlsbad, Part II (when I ran a best of 13.2 @108. Well, today the Vomitmobile broke into the 12s

Specifically,

1.078 Reaction (doesn't affect 1/4 time or MPH)
2.059 60 ft.
5.543 330 ft.
8.407 1/8 ET
86.17 1/8 MPH
12.877 1/4 ET
111.07 1/4 MPH

Again, this was on stock-size (245) street tires (T-1s), with no rear deflation or front over-inflation, no tire warming, 2/3 tank of gas, all tools and accessories and 235 lbs. of Vomit in car. I also still have my stock AMG wheels on the front (the front Lex wheels are on back order, and will drop another 20 lbs of unsprung weight from the car).

Anyways, the rest of my runs were mostly 12.9/111 or 13.0/111. Ambient temperature was slightly higher than Part II (68 vs. 65 F).

The plug/wire upgrade really seems to up the HP at the very top end of the RPM band. Before, the car kinda died after 6000. Now, it pulls all the way up to redline/shift.

Impressive Vomit!

What all do you have done to your car?

I'm interested to see what makes a 12ish second C32...

Thats all I want to be able to do, just put the number 12 up... for now.

what kind of gas were you using? are you launching with/without traction control?

Vomit,

I was thinking to change the spark plugs and wires.
Where did you get Denso Iridium plugs and Magnecor wires for your mod C32.
I cannot get it in Hong Kong.
Thanks for your help! :p

the 12 sec quarter is not as impressive as his 111mph...very good indication of 400+ crank hp.

The wires can be purchased through Evosport (they make their own, C32-specific wire) or online from Apexperformance.net (ask for Linda). The plugs can also be purchased from Evo, or check LTBMotorsports.com.

I used the same gas as last time. 10 gals of 91 pump gas and 6 gals of 100 unleaded race gas (for a blended mix in the 94-95 range).

Oh, and launch was with ESP disengaged. I also tried a run in "W" mode. The car stayed in 2nd (did not downshift to 1st), but it seemed like I lost just as much traction starting in 2nd as in 1st. I think that the result was very similar (a 13.0/110, if I remember correctly).

If I could shed 50 lbs off my own fat ****, and with the lighter front wheels, I might be able to take a shot at NMM's 12.6. Anyone know what his exact time/trap speed was?

The comical part of this whole thing is that I took my car in to be re-dynod on Friday. You may remember that it dyno'd stock at 288 RWHP. I then had it dyno'd a couple of months ago at 325 RWHP (post Evo mods, but pre-K&N, Magnecor, Iridiums). This time, with all mods completed, it dyno'd even lower (319 RWHP)! The shop also "recomputed" the 325HP dyno, and brought it down to 310HP and recomputed the 288HP dyno and brought it down to 280.

I don't remember who it was that was saying "dyno figures are meaningless," but I think that I have become a believer. Wish I had taken the money spent on the dynos and spent it at the track learning how to launch the beast.

I read in C&D or Motortrend where Dinan is purchasing a massive wind tunnel to simulate 80mph wind flow over the front of the car. He said the shop fans that the dyno operators use can only simulate a 15mph wind. He loses upwards of 80hp on the dyno using these shop fans with his tuned M5's.

If he was in Houston or an east coast drag strip he probably would. Unfortunately here in Southern California we have tracks at 3000ft elevation or the slippery Carlsbad track that is within a few hundred feet of sea level, but is slick as ****. I get far more traction on the street than the Carlsbad track.

With nice cool day, a pro 160lb driver, the lighter wheels, and 1/4 tank of gas, I think that my car could hit a 12.6. Add in slicks, and maybe could be down around 12.4. Yesterday's times seem to be pretty much what one would normally expect with a relatively inexperienced driver and street tires, on a medium-temperature day. My 60 foot time was better, but still not great. I would like to see it down around 1.9 or even 1.8.

Roozy, you seem to have a very fast stock car. I don't think that most stock C32s will break into the twelves, slicks or no slicks. You should Evosport that baby! With a few mods, you might have a shot at being the first C32 to break into the elevens.

by adding pulleys, you gain hp, but by adding boost with the supercharger, you get more torque at a lower rpm

rwhp gains are probably because it was dynod on a different day, under different circumstances

the dyno operator can either A)overtighten the ground straps which would steal some of your hp and make more torque or B)undertighten it to make it competely false altogether

because if the wheels spin on the dyno, it means that theoretically the dyno could tell the operator that there is more power than there actually is

with the temperature, give or take 15hp.

As you already know...dyno is just a testing tool...your timing has improved, and I know you haven't lost hp...who cares what that chart says as long as your times are getting better.

I'm a 160lb driver...maybe I could break into 12.6's :p ...got to get the real mods done first though.

Ahhh. . . the mysterious N.M.M. with his hidden timeslips lurking in the shadows, waiting to ambush some unsuspecting C32 racer who thinks that he's got good times!

I may actually head back up there this Saturday, if anybody is interested. I've got the bug!
