Fine Day, Fine Runs, Good People

Vomit and Mini Vomit met up with Zeppelin at the Java coffee shop at 10:30 A. Amil was a no-show. Unexpected guest was Paul from Hoehn MBZ. Need a line on a C or E 55? He can get it without the bendover syndrome.

Anyways, enjoyed a great time with Zep (Tim). Beautiful day, but too warm for running C32s (77-80 farenheit). Track was slippery as sheet. Tim has 255 T-1s on the back and Vomit has 245 T-1s. We both had Krappy 60 foot times. Both have similar Evo mods. Both had major launch spin, with 2.2-2.3 60 foot times. Raced each other three times. Launch winner was race winner.

Lesson I: Especially on a warm day, the C32 needs the octane. Feed her a few gallons of 100 unleaded before the strip, especially if you have an upgraded (93 octane) ECU.

Lesson II: (you already know this) Damn, warm weather kills the C32. Don't expect to make the same times when the temp jumps 10 or 15 degrees.

Best run-Vomits 13.0/110. Highest trap speed. Vomit's 111.32.

Some kills/killed: Stock 2004 Cobra with slicks against Vomit. Cobra jumps 1 1/2 cars at start. By end of 1/4, Vomit is 1/2 car behind and pulling (Cobra trap is 109.5, Vomitmobile trap is 111).

Moral of story: stock supercharged SVT Cobra on street tires vs. Evosport I C32 on streets will be a close race, with slight advantage to C32.

Vomit Lost to: Mitsu VIII with cam, exhaust, chip, gears. Damned thing ran a 12.4.

Zep killed: STI with carbon fibre hood/trunk and SRT-4 with exhaust.

Vomit, I had a great time, but it was way to warm. At least I now know what my street setup(91 pump gas, spare tire installed) is capable of in hot weather. Also the C32 is a very consistant 1/4 mile car. Of the 9 runs the highest was 13.679@ 105.19 and the lowest was 13.524@106.58. One run was even made with the AC on.

All my 60 foot times were in the 2.3 second range. I wish they would fix that damn track. Should be able to get below 2 seconds with street tires on most raceways. Even the guys on slicks were in the 1.9 second range.

What were the 1/4 times of the slicked Cobra Vs. your car?
A half car length is very respectable.
The Evo ran a 12.4. Obviously all wheel drive pays off. Did the Evo owner tell you how much power he was running and at what boost?

My 401, I think that your memory might be failing you. To refresh same, I quote one of your previous posts:

"ColdAir = HP
Only thing I can figure? Cold air about mid 40s. Humidity around 45-55%. Made several runs tonite. I couldn't keep rear wheel hooked-up!!! "

I believe that you went on to say that you ran a 12.7/107 in the 40 degree weather. I have run a 12.8/111 in ambient temperature roughly 20 degrees higher. I fail to see how your 12.7/107 in very cold air is that impressive?


I will also point out that you had the same issue in hot weather (I think you said 97 degrees?). On August 17, 2003, you posted that you ran a 13.567@103.99, a 13.661@106.29, and a 13.280@104.61, which less-than-earth-shattering times you attributed to the hot weather. And, correct me if I am wrong, but this was with the Renntech pulley/ECU and "Y" splitter installed.

The track was very slick this weekend, much more so than the week before. I'm pretty sure that I could have taken him in the 1/4 if he had streets on.

Zeppelin

12.4 was his only decent run. He said that he was on another decent run but missed a shift. All his other runs were bogs or worse times. He said he was running a cam/intake/ECU/exhaust. no mention of boost level.

Lots of fast Hondas, WRX's, Evo's, mustangs, VW bugs. The AWD guys were either boging down, missing shifts or frying their clutches. The mustangs spent there day in the water box trying to do burnouts. And the VW bug w/turbo blew his engine apart in the burn-out box.

Meanwhile Vomit and I made 9 runs in an hour.

Zep brings up a good point. Who wants to go to the strip hoping that their cars survive? Zep and I could simply run and return to the line, averaging a run every 5 minutes. The rest of the cars would run, and sit for 1/2 hour afterwards, with the hood open and with bags of ice on the intake. Our C32s would run near-duplicate times with little or no rest time. People were amazed.

I forget who it was, but thanks for the idea of cranking up the A/C with the temp on high after each run. Really bleeds the heat off of the motor fast.
