C32 Exhaust Mod for California...?

With the lack of exhaust choices for the C32... Looking into doing the Exhaust Mod of removing the Secondary Cats and Resonator... Does any C32 owners in California know if doing both mods or either one of the two that would NOT be a problem for California Smog testing...??? Hoping some California Faithfuls can give me some insight so I can get this C32 Growling a little and maybe breath a little better to... Thanks in Advance... Roland Navalta / Ikaika808

If you live in a city in CA that requires smog checks you can not modify the intake or exhaust unless it has been tested and has a CARB legal sticker that comes with it.

Pretty sure I've read of California folks who have deleted the secondaries and still passed emission checks. Not sure if they know we're supposed to have two sets and once the car is warm enough, the primaries keep it clean enough to pass.

Im not saying you cant get it smoged I am saying it is illegal. It can make it way harder to get a smog done though.

Would they know it was illegal? They do a visual and see the primaries, hook it up and it passes and move to the next poor sap, no? Ohio no longer has emissions checks so my missing secondaries are a non-issue and I'm purely guessing.

this is not true at all. i and plenty of friends have fully custom exhaust in california and pass smog no problem. the state only takes issue with any modifications upstream from the O2 sensors (cats, headers, intakes). so those mods that are upstream from the O2s absolutely need to have a CARB number.

technically, i believe modifying the exhaust in general is illegal in CA, but that is NOT enforced via smog checks and i've never heard of it being enforced by a police officer.

CA. V.C. 27151 No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5(commencing with Section 27200) of this chapter. No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

plus removing the secondary converters is altering the emissions equipment and ca result in a fail for that alone.

correct, that is the law but i have never ever heard of it being enforced by a police officer, and a smog check has nothing to do with whether or not the exhaust has been modified to be made louder.

all you need to worry about for CA smog tests are anything upstream from the O2s (for the visual portion) and that your all your sensors are happy from the OBD2 port's point of view.
