For the young ones here...
Can you please tell me how much insurance you pay and how you are covered?
for example, right now, my mother is the primary driver of the C32, and I'm the occasional driver. and, I claim to drive a '91 Honda Accord that my uncle has. because i've had a fair share of speeding tickets and an accident (not in the C32) my rate is pretty high. For the last six months, I paid 1800 for both cars. I received my renewal notice and they want 2600 for both cars. They said that it jumped because I had two speeding tickets in the last year.
i really want to figure out what the best way is to get insurance. hopefully some of you can help me out.
thanks
Unless you are over 25, you will get screwed on the insurance, period, unless you have an older car. Put it this way...
I have 2 tix in 2002, meaning 2 pts on my record
county: san mateo
rate: 950 for 6 months
Wait til the 2 tix go away and it will be around 600 - how do you like that

Driving a sports car in Europe (except Germany) is actually insane.
In Euorope we pay about 1,00-1,10 Euro or 1,30 USD per liter nowadays !! (I think its about 4 $/gallon if I am correct)
Insurance is very high+roadtaxes+luxury taxes in some countries for sports cars.
Roadtaxes in different European countries vary greatly because each has their own system it seems.
In Germany the roadtax depends greatly on how enviroment friendly the car is. I believe for the new D4 standard they get 1 or 2 years tax FREE !
In Holland all goes by the weight of the car (so I heared at least).
So if you drive a 20 year old 1,2 liter engine car that weighs 1000 kg that will just produce serious levels off polution you pay very little tax. On the other hand you pay through your nose driving a heavy car with the latest anti pollution technology.
In Belgium we have a system where the roadtaxes are based on perfomance (KW). The stronger the car the higher the tax. Diesels are taxed in a separate list, again by power, but again anything with just a bit of extra power will cost you at least 1300 USD a year.
Besides that we have to pay luxury taxes when you buy a new car. Again it goes by performance. For a C32 this means adding about 6000 USD to your car invoice !!
Cars are the governments milk cows over here. I think if all Belgians should stop driving their cars for 1 week the country would be bankrupt !!

lol i think i win for them getting me up the A$$ i pay 5,000 a year and im the primary driver of a 2003 doge caravan and i can drive my dads 745 and my C32 with that.. I didnt know that all the stuipd tickets go on there like illegal exhaust and illegal lighting all stuff from my ricer days.. They got our insurance up to 14,000 a year now with me my mom and dad.. sad day when you can buy a honda every year in what you pay for insurance..
or accidents. My insurance went down almost $300 every 6 months when I switched from the 03 CLK320 to the 04 C32 AMG...pretty funny! I thank my 4-doors for the lowering of insurance!
Second, shop around some are cheaper than others...
I pay 896.00 every 6 months for the C32, ML320, and Millenia S.. married and over 25 though too with a clean record...
And yes, with the right lawyer, you can get out of any speeding ticket...
I got a 137mph in a 70mph ....I-435 south of Kansas City's International Airport..., went to jail, got bailed out...got my laywer on it and walked away paying $700.00 ..for 8 hours of Driving school and 0 points on my license.
(got into a highway run vs. a Z28) and went through a speed trap... doh!
Hey...noticed you in St. Louis...i was transfered back for work to corp headquarters in St. Louis a few months ago... should hit the street sometime in our C32's
Im building a new house in Glen Carbon, IL right now and work in downtown (Gateway One Building)
It is likely that C32 is rated very differently by different insurance companies. Allstate and Statefarm both look at it as a "typical sedan" for me. My wife's RX300 is almost as much.
You must clear any tickets you can, traffic school.
Speeding in residential/city areas is just not smart, cops are very concerned about revenue generation to pay for the latest radar gun and generally over time they will catch you. Plus, it really isn't safe, you may hurt a pedestrian for example.
Speeding on the highway is a different deal, CHP typically catch speeders in a somewhat "gentlemanly way". It is possible to speed in the highway for years without getting any tickets. Not so in the city.
What ever you do, get a good detector though.
As everyone says:
Tickets,
Coverage
Insurance Co.
Your location are the biggest factors
Your type of car follows that.
Insurance is also very dependent on where you live. I've had friends that move around within DFW and will have their insurance go up/down a couple $100/year when they move.
When I got my C32 last October, my insurance actually went down $5/month. I'm not married, but over 25 paying and $119/month, which doesn’t seem so bad comparably.
First, get a lawyer and get rid of those tickets, it will be cheaper to spend the money to get rid of the ticket vs pay the change in premiums...
I got a ticket driving in the town I live, last Nov (2003)... whelp???.. I put the case on my attorney's hands, after all the paperwork, surveys, discoveries, data gathering, subpoena(s), etc, my case was won in court last month
(my traffic ticket was for "speeding"
)As Mr. alumar said, I would encourage ANYONE who has a ticket, to rather pay an attorney, preferably one with a good record of litigation on traffic cases, than deal with the consequences of not doing so (increase in premiums, points to the license, etc)... Stan (My attorney) has some interesting stories... many actually where he has even gotten back driver's licenses (after someone got a ticket and point that caused him to loose his license), contested "settled" cases which would be when you pleaded "guilty" over the telephone and/or by mail and paid your fine and went to traffic school... well??? he is even contested those and won in court and many other cases... my case that I considered a "simple" one had over than 30 different motions to dismiss the case, this is even before the evidence my attorney had which in itself would have won my case!!... anyway... I don't know how my attorney charges to clients as I have him for "life" retained
... I have only had one ticket since 1997, however, after he has represented me, I decided to continue with his services (just in case
)... I know he works with each individual to see what suits him/her best... (per hour, consulting only, representation, possible flat fee(s)... etc, etc)If anyone is interested, please shoot me an email Wiedermann@aol.com and I will put you in contact with him (he used to be a criminal attorney I think for 10+ years but for the last 30 something years he has been litigating only traffic cases...
