I'm considering purchasing a C55 AMG and was hoping to obtain some insight into the AMG purchase process. I realize that pricing info for the C55 AMG has not been released yet, however, when I asked the salesman whether he would be willing to discount the purchase price once pricing info is known he laughed and said that no-one had ever asked him to discount the price of an AMG vehicle. I currently drive an '01 Audi S4 and my prior car was a '98 M3 and for both cars I was able to negotiate several thousand dollars off the sticker price. I realize that supply/demand drives this issue and that the C55 is a limited production car with a new engine and body styling, however, is it really true that new AMG vehicles (other than discontinued models like the C32) typically sell at or above MSRP or is this guy just blowing a lot of smoke.

where are you located? Which dealership you dealing with? This guy is smoking crack. I bought the 1st c32 @ the dealer, and I bought it @ MSRP. you could get discount if you wait 1 yr IMO.

for a new AMG...brand new model... yes, it is pretty difficult to get a discount off msrp...and yes often they do sell for more than msrp on new models.

Mr NewAMG:
My 2 cents... If you are "shopping around", look for discounts... if you are a AAA member, the auto club does offer a "pre-negotiated" price with dealers, which at least will get you the C32, C55, etc at the MSRP... as Mr. jleung88 and Mr ahopeter indicated, even without AAA's service (only available if you are a member though), and though there are other services out there that are similar to AAA's program, you still should be able; on your own, to find a dealer that would negotiate with you to a price at least at MSRP... at that price (MSRP) the dealership is already making their money... those that add up markups and so on, is, like you said, due to the "market" demand for the vehicle, they just see where they can suck up more money... if you want to pay more.. sure go ahead and do it!! (that is what I say!)...

Anything negotiable you might be able to get MSRP. Never hurts to try, you just have to be willing to walk away from the deal. Like you said it depends on the demand on the car, and how long it sits on the lot.
