Installing headers questions
I have made it to the point that I need headers. I have bin reading about the best one for the price and im thinking of going with the Kleemann ones now I just need to know how to install them when I do get them. I have seen posts that say you have to unbolt the mounts and tilt the engine to one side and the other to get them in and out but when I asked eurocharged they just shock there head and said no its pretty easy I should have asked for more info but I was not thinking right with the crazy E55 on the dyno. What do you guys think? I have a lift and every tool you need and after looking at it looks pretty easy. Could any of you that have done the install give me some tips and how to do it.

I bought the Eurocharged "shorty" headers last September 2017 but didn't install them until late November due to a shoulder injury. Having said that and also being a DIY mechanic since I began as my Dad's helper when I was 10, the install was fairly straightforward but would be easier with a hoist instead of 3 floor jacks and jack-stands. All in all, it took 8 hours with a few snags here and there! The start up produced an amazing sound that resonated in the garage! What amplified that sound was facilitated by a Eurocharged ECU tune that I bought and installed via a download over the internet.
If you're going to do the headers, do the ECU tune, too! The guys at Eurocharged know what customer service really means!
Good luck.....

If you're an average mechanic, then you can do the job. If no, here's my suggestion for you: Buy the Mercedes Benz EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog), WIS/ASRA Program. The EPC is self-explanatory; however, the WIS/ASRA is what the MB techs use which shows a step-by-step protocol to fix every possible mechanical, electrical, hydraulic problem known to man for all MB vehicles. You can search by VIN, model number (W203, W204, etc.) and there are illustrations and photos which are somewhat helpful.
You can find the program on Ebay.
Lastly, yes you must drop the underbody panel covers, loosen and completely remove both motor mounts while supporting the engine with an engine hoist and completely drop the entire exhaust system. While you're at it, you' also want to remove the front wheels, too.
Up top, you must remove the spark plug wires and ignition coils so you can visually see the access to the top oem exhaust copper nuts.
I'm not going to list the steps here but you'll not regret buying this program.
Good luck....

Also, I nearly found out the "hard way" that you must disconnect the steering wheel column U-joint which is next to the exhaust downpipe that attached to the left side manifold. BEFORE YOU DO THAT PROCEDURE, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED IN-PLACE AND DOES NOT TURN AFTER DISCONNECTING THE U-JOINT. IF THE STEERING WHEEL TURNS MORE THAN IT SHOULD, YOU RUN THE COSTLY EXPENSE ($800+/- WHOLESALE) OF BREAKING THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK OR STEERING ANGLE SENSOR (LOOK IT UP.....ITS INSIDE THE INTERIOR STEERING WHEEL COLUMN).
As I stated, if you're an average wrench, give it a try. If not, then pay a good local MB Tech shop to install them for you!

I am looking for a way to improve the sound on my car without removing the cats or mufflers. My resonator was already removed.

I had Eurocharged mid-length headers installed on my E500 and the boost in exhaust note was minimal. Got more sound from putting in AMG E55 mufflers and a resonator delete with X-pipe.

I immediately heard a sound difference upon start-up but prior to my Eurocharged ECU tune!!! I also perceive that improved with the ECU tune, too! Sorry........I don't do video but I'm sure you can search this forum and find one!
Did you have any interest in my CF flat-bottom steering and CF gearshift knob for your C43?

So let me confirm. Prior to your ecu tune, the shorties did make a difference in sound?
And you had the resonator remove only, cats and muffler on still??

I installed the headers without removing any other exhaust parts! I stand by my previous statement! The sound quality perception is solely in the ears of the listener!!! lol

When the headers went in the AMG mufflers had already been installed, but no X-pipe. Stock resonator was still in place. After the headers were in I noticed very little change of the exhaust note. Going in I was worried about them being too loud but the result was just the opposite. That's why I later did the resonator delete.

I"m not familiar with the term "hot smog"! What I meant is how will to be able to pass the "visual" inspection?
