C55 Horsepower

Why does the C55 have 5 more horsepower than the SLK55 AMG or current CLK55 AMG's?

5hp is fairly insignificant, it could be a difference in the way they're rating it, or maybe due to intake/exhaust differences. Or they could be going the way of Nissan and are rating all the cars with the same engine with slightly different amounts of power.

5hp difference...

It is very common to have some difference in Horse Power rating just due to the exhaust configuration, not to count that changing the timing slightly can easily yield 5 hp with no sweat (SL55 vs E55 have the same engine and yet there is a almost 50 Horse Power difference on each vehicle! )

Cheers!

Actually, if you put the SL55 and E55 on a dyno, they have almost the same horsepower.

I think the C55 has the same hp as the CLK55. It is just the number game that MB is playing.

yes, if you actually look in the manual of the E55 vs the SL55, it's got the same HP rating as the other V8 Kompressor AMG vehicles

E55 should get slightly smaller numbers on the dyno due to less aggressive ECU programming, smaller intercooling system, and smaller diameter exhaust (70mm compared to SL55s 90mm)...when compared to other V8 Kompressors.

The C55 engine is identical to the CLK55 (W209), they both have 11.0 compression as opposed to the previous 5.4L N/A M113 V8s, which have 10.5 compression ratio... taht acconts for the extra HP in the C55 and CLK55!!! But both CLK55 and C55 should put out the same numbers on the dyno!!!

well, more than the rated 469 hp MB put out...it's very close to the S55, CL55 and SL55 ratings.

Where are you getting the hp #s from? I have always seen 362 for all 3 cars. The C55 still isn't on mbusa.com.

7 DIN hp difference. Hmm... The exhaust systems are probably quite different, and I bet that caused the difference. That was the case with the W208 CLK55, IIRC.

hmmm, somebody needs to measure the exhaust on the SLK55, C55, and CLK55 and we'll know a definate answer!!!
