I did an Audi Driver's School at Mid-Ohio this past month. The school was excellent even though I registered as experience which was four times on the track each of the two days. The less seasoned driver's, any make from Volvo S60R to a Mustang V6, had the oppurtunity to do wet exercises and small autocross segments.

About 2/3 of the 150 cars were Audis. I was the only MB with a few 911tt(one with the X50 package) and a Z06. By the end of the last day they opened up the last session to 30 min. and the B6 S4 driven owned by Fred Baker's son-in-law driven by Fred(seasoned SCCA Valvoline Runoff champ) was right around 1:50 a lap with a set of Hoosiers.

Besides that my little 350hp 4-door-auto was left chasing two 911tt, Z06, and a few prepped early 911s. There was an "S3" which I left on the back straight but would handle really well in the twisties. It looked like an S4, so I thought it had a Stage 3 upgrade. Find out it was an A4 1.8t(about 500 lbs. weight advantage) making 340hp and over 400 ft. lbs. at the crank backed by Stoptech, coilovers, and quattro. The owner had a few questions about the C32...he was a little shocked when I told him it is stock.

By the end of the weekend I had close to a dozen people inquire about the C32. I guess it impressed quite a few.

I did have new digital video camera rolling and was able to catch some of the weekends action. Below is me following a 911tt on the last day. Exiting the keyhole leading onto the back straight if I start the straight in 3rd I loose a little as you can see the 415hp Porsche roll away. But watch how I eat him back up with a half lap.

how was your impression of the B6S4 on the track/overall. I know that it is heavier than our c32, but it has been tested with comparitively similar #s on several tracks.

Nice showing with the C32. BTW, how are the tires holding up after a few events. You switched to Sport Cups, right?

 

ntguru/carl, I am not sure but I used Media Player 9 to upload. Anyone else have a problem? Sorry no audio. I am still figuring out where to mount the mic. There was an exterior mounted camera for rent. The renter said that most like the mic in the trunk to pick up the exhaust note.

lap, I was in the grandstands when Fred Baker was driving the B6 S4. Considering his level of experience I don't think the car will go much faster. I was a bout 2 seconds faster which might explain why I have seen the S4 run close to 14 seconds according to the auto magazines. The front tires of the Hoosiers, about the best DOT tire you can buy, were just starting to roll off their tread in the front.

smgc32, I installed the front camber bolt and there was noticeably less wearing on the outside edge of the Cups. I was even running lower pressures. My instructor said that he felt the car was handling better the next day. A week prior I tried to heat cycle the Cups on the street but I guess there is only so much you can do. Granted this was at a course that I have never been on before.

i have problems playing it as well. i even updated to windows media 9 and still no go. i have mostly all the codecs.

 

Norm, do you have any special software loaded on your PC that cam with your camera? I have a Fuji camera that loads a proprietary codec so unless you compress it under a standard one, no one else can open your videos (unless they have the Fuji software too).

Given my tag, and living about an hour from Mid Ohio, you can probably guess why I'm dying to see your video!

 

i think norm has a proprietary codec. i've run into that problem before.

 

Until mess around with it some more and repost you can catch SpeedWorld Challenge at noon on Sunday the 27th. I was able to squeak off a few sub 1:50s. We'll see how far I am off the race pace.

Ntguru, are you coming to StarFest? So far, from this list, we have Norm, Carl, DSC32, Juan, and myself signed up for 3 days on the track! What a blast this will be. We so far have 11 C32's and SLK 32's signed up, and there's a month to go. This will be the biggest gathering of these cars at a track in history.

 

I don't know yet... My 32 has been in the shop for 6 months now (hit head on at 45mph). What are the event dates again?

 

We'll be on the track on August 2, 3 and 4.

 

I'm looking forward to Mid-Ohio. I'm definitely looking to get instructed by Norm, Rapid G and others that are familiar with the track so I can quickly try to learn the line. I saw some of the ALMS on Speed but there's nothing like the experience of having run the track before.
