Sport Auto: C55 - M3

http://www.jabbasworld.net/viewtopic.php?t=13112

NS time:
C55 is not even close to M3 cornering performance due to massive understeering, but the AMG is definitely superior on the straight, great V8 engine and at last a good auto gearbox with manu-mode...

HHR:
again, understeering prevents a better lap time, also no specific handling ( weight ) some problems with brakes too....

M3 1:16.3
C55 1:18.6
Audi RS6 Avant PLUS - HHR: 1:17.4
EVO VIII - HHR: 1:17.2
TVR Tuscan S - HHR: 1:14.9

Gabri343,
Why are you still trying to make yourself feel good about your M3? It's a great car we all know it, unlike you who always comes in here trying to prove something bad about our cars, we respect yours for what it is. Get a life, stick to your bimmer boards or drive around italy, but stop wasting our time.

Interesting, the overall score between the M3 and the C55 is not much different. Still very close.

If we were to race the two cars, its gonna be close and probably closer than the C32 could have been, but the M3 will lead ever so slightly (unless you have a sucky driver(s)).

Whoa...

I figure I'll read up on the new C55 in this forum but these threads are pretty harsh

The way I look at it is that if BMW wouldn't have made the M3 so good, MB wouldn't have gotten their bud in gear and build the cool C-Class AMG it is today.

he came in just to say the C55 doesn't handle as well as the M3 and the M3 has a better lap time. I personally don't care how they perform on the track because we don't drive on tracks everyday, what happens on the street and highways is all it matters for a lot of us.

The C55 makes a better all rounder than the M3 on the streets and highways for sure....

Laptimes don't mean much to most of us, they are for the professionals

On the reverse, I will vote for C55 will out run M3 every single run.

The C55 is 13 seconds QUICKER than the C32 on the Nordscliefe and has the SAME TIME as the M3.

MB's new Direct control/ Nurburgring suspension/ and ESP tuned to behave like LSD is surely made a difference here.

Why no M3 drivers comment on that?TROLLS

Doesn't having 18" wheel C55 vs 17" wheel C32 have something to do being quicker in at the Nordscliefe? I looked all over the forum and everybody mentions about the new ESP tuning, suspension, etc...but I thought going up in wheel size provides better turning ability?

I always thought having 19" wheels (of the M3) have an effect on having quicker lap times (in general) compared to the 17" wheels of the C32 or 18"wheels of the C55?

Just a thought....

The 19" wheels on the m3 is not an advantage thats going to drop lap times significantly. There have been many tests in the past that showed a 17" wheel/tire combo outperforming 18 and 19's Bigger is not always better

Supertest review

I don't read German well, but as Bilal says, the C55 ran 8.22 at Nordschleif, just as the M3 did. This means no more "just wait till we go to the twisties" BS from BMWers, now it really is ALL about driving ability. These cars are "too close to call" especially when very severe handling is required. If you take a look at the test the C55 is the match for the benchmark M3 from top to bottom in these specs. The biggest difference is the C55's less than 50/50 weight bias and the fact that it thus handles marginally less well. But the difference 1.1g vs 1.15g peak ..... not much.

AMG really should be applauded, the new C55 has significantly improved handling as shown in the data. I am glad to finally see some real-world data, not just the C55 mag/mfgr hype that we have been handed up to this point.

One more point, I am pretty sure that those of us that have suspension-modded C32's can readily match or exceed all of these C55 numbers. So we all can be damn happy about this Supertest review!
