Another ignition issue

I'm borderline about to light this car on fire I got it a month ago and spent most of the time doing neglected maintenance
And today it just got way worse when it comes to starting the car

I have this issue where i try to start the car
One of the four things happen

I put my key in I can't turn it
I put my key in, it turns, car won't start (no accessories work)
Car manages to start, gauges, accessories, lights, climate control, etc you get the idea don't work, but I can drive it, I can't signal either.
Car starts like normal,, everything works (rare occasion)

We had a snap on scanner, and it had a ton of ignition switch faults

This is getting really irritating as it takes forever to just start the car
I just put a new agm battery in and it still does it only did this cause someone told me that it was a battery issue, waste of 200 bucks imo
I have no idea what else to do, I don't mind getting a new key as I only have one and it's kinda ghetto
I just don't want to spend tons of money chasing something

I'll post videos later

Is there a reason why if you're getting ignition switch faults you don't figure it's a problem with the ignition switch and not the battery or anything else? It would probably be helpful if you post exactly what faults you are getting.

There was so many ignition related faults I couldn't even list them off over a dozen lol

I'm thinking it is the ignition switch
Wasn't sure if it could be something else

Sucks it says I need to get it programmed

I don't think that is even possible now
I can't even turn the key on the car
And it was my friends snap on tool which I think the car has to be on to scan

It wasn't a normal obd2 reader

You don’t deserve to own it if you feel like setting it on fire after a month of ownership. Replace the ignition switch first, and stop acting like a teenager.

Get real

It's been nothing but neglected maintenance that the previous owner lied about that Ive been uncovering

Now add this ignition/key issue.

Luckily I found a merceds shop that can replace the ignition if that is the problem, for $600~

Dont let that super member status get to your head.

Haha idk what’s up with that response up there. Rob is just trying to sort out the car so he can enjoy it like the rest of us. I’m sure he doesn’t want to just throw money at it so his questions are justified.

It’s a shame that the owner neglected it but at least it’s in good hands now and hopefully we can help you as a community.

So, did you end up getting the key?

He's just an elitist
Every car scene or group has them and I've never gotten along with them, I've never owned two of the same car brand as I am not 'brand loyal' per say, so I've seen my share. Rarely do I have to ask for help since I can figure out most stuff so I hardly interact, but I see the elitists doing their thing

Anyways, yes the key just showed up and to my surprise it worked!
Car starts every time
Nothing wonky or anything

Little tiny things to address and it's perfect, the Android unit says 'amp error', PO never actually fixed it but he gave me old oem unit I might just put that on there cause I have no idea how to wire up that stuff, and I need to fix the driver seat heater, it's never worked so I'll start with replacing the switch on the dash.

Only codes I get now are for my cats, I used to get po600 but I'm sure that was the key, might sent off my ecu to get it tuned so the codes are removed

Rob......

Do yourself a favor and buy a quality ODBII scanner ($200+/-) and save a ton of money with DIY diagnostics....you can delete the codes yourself......It'll be the best $200 spent on any car, especially an MB..

Good luck.....

Rob, don't waste your time replacing the seat heater switch. 99 time out of 100 its a bad heating element in the seat itself. I've experienced this with 2 different AMGs. I had a switch that wouldn't light up when pressed making me thing it was possibly the switch. luckily found a replacement seat locally, and everything works fine now. There are threads on how to fix the heating element if you want to tackle it. I'm seriously assuming that's your problem. Good luck and let us know!
