Valve Stem Seal Additives

Good day,

My car was diagnosed with Valve Stem Seals Leak and the repair is expensive, I at least need few months to budget for it. The car started misfiring, had to replace the Spark Plugs, I was told that the spark plugs got damaged by oil.

Question: is it safe to use Rislone Valve Seal Oil Consumption Repair? Can this be considered as a temporally repair?

Thank you.

Can you confirm it's valve stem seals and not spark plug wells (which is a part of valve cover gasket)? How many miles are on the car?

Bump.

Anyone? I'd like to know too... This is my SECOND C55 with a drinking problem. My old car went through a quart every 300 miles. I was beginning to believe the rings were shot, but never got around to doing a compression test before It was totaled.

My new one isn't quite as bad, but it definitely exceeds AMG's 1 quart per 1000 miles spec.

I have read that additives like this can cause damage if you have things with very small oil passages such as variable cam timing adjusters (like BMW VANOS). I'm don't believe the M113 has anything like this. Can anyone verify?

I had an oil consumption issue with my C55 at the beginning of ownership as well and here is what solved it for me. I previously used Mobil 1 0w40 for all oil changes, then when I noticed over consumption (Almost a quart every 1500-2k miles) I ran a mixed oil for about 2k miles, which was a High Mileage Mobil 1 formula 10w40 (2.5quarts) mixed with a Turbo diesel Mobil 1 5w40 (6quarts). My theory was to help rejuvinate the seals, without anything that would hurt the motor. This helped a lot but consumption with mobil 1 0w40 afterwards was still about half a quart every 1500-2k miles.... Then I switched to Castrol Edge 0w40 last year and in almost 3k miles my oil level still reads ok which I confirmed with dipstick also. My theory is that the Mobil 1 doesn't have a high enough heat thresh-hold and was vaporizing or was being burned off. The Castrol thus far seems to be doing much better, switched my ML55 to the same stuff too.

Side note, my valve cover gaskets have been bone dry through out all of this and spark plugs were less then 10k old and normal/clean throughout testing. Just my two cents, no affiliation with any brands.

My impression is that 0-40 is too thin for our engines.
Had my car for 11 years, always run on Mobil 1 5-50.
Change it every year, drive all year round.
Oilconsumtion normal throughout.

M 113-engine last where you can use 5-40 or 5-50,
newer engines need 0-40. So I´ve heard..

Castrol I’m running is 0w40. But I agree, and do plan to switch to 5-40 or 5-50 next change.

Thanks guys. I've actually been supplementing with the 5w40 Castrol, but haven't changed the oil yet. The previous owner had just changed it with Mobil 1 when I got it. Next oil change, I'll see how it goes with all Castrol.

The standard 229.5 Mercedes branded oil sold by dealers in the UK is a 5w40.

Works fine for me.

Just an update. I switched to Castrol synthetic 5W-40 and the oil consumption is the same. About 1 quart per 400 miles. Back to considering valve seal repair per the the OP...
