what does AMG stand for?

Could anybody educate me as to what exactly does AMG stand for? And has AMG always been part of the Mercedes company?

Thanks

Ohh,ohhhh I know this one! Me, me, me!

The company was founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht (A) and Erhard Melcher (M). The (G) stands for Grossaspach, the town where Aufrecht was born.

Yeah, I memorized it....I'm an AMG nerd
