Hey guys, I'm about to purchase a suspiciously inexpensive '03 C32 from a non-Mercedes dealer. I'm obviously going to do a CarFax but I also want to cover all the basics - like how do I match the numbers? Where is the VIN on the engine or frame? I'm looking for good visual inspection suggestions that will prevent me from buying a flood car or C320 fake. Hopefully I'll be a newbie here soon!!!
Thanks!
Thanks!

how inexpensive are you talking, and what kind of dealer? I personally avoid 3rd pary private dealers at all costs; fwiw - if its too good to be true, it probably is

Ya, tell us how much and where it is, so we can go snake your deal from you.

Don't get frustrated, dude! We're just messing around with you.
Your question was a little strange, and would require several paragraphs of recitation of basic principles of common sense, which is why nobody has run with the bait.
Try this novel approach: Just make the deal contingent on a satisfactory (to you) inspection report from a MBZ dealer. Spend the few bucks, and let the experts decide if your potential purchase sucks.

It was actually a decent question... So Mr. Vomit, I'll have to run with that bait............ Originally Posted by Vomit

jhw, Good questions
1. Carfax is a start. It would be great if it is a carfax certified car.
2. If it has a salvage title, its value is 1/2.
3. Be careful of flood damaged, mud slide, or other acts of nature cars... When we buy them it is for a specific purpose other than using that car as one to drive. Parts mainly
4. Electrical is not fixable 75% of the time..
5. If it has high miles, that might be why such a low price.....
6. Last, an inspection by a MBZ dealer is a waste of time and money.... Use an independant company with nothing to lose if it is a good car or a bad car.

If you have a really nice dealer and take him the VIN, he can research the service history of this vehicle and print it out for you. That way you will know if the vehicle was abused by its previous owners. You don't want to take chance on a lemon now do you ? If you don't have a dealer nearby or if he is not friendly, contact MB North America customer service and see if they can get the information for you.Originally Posted by jhw
