V1 not so great.

I hardwired a V1 into my C55 a few days after I got it and it falses more than any other detector I've had. It supposedly has a "sophisticated" computer to isolate and ignore the common x and k band signals from door openers etc... The only thing sophisticated about it is how consistently it goes off for every x/k door opener in Maricopa county. NOT IMPRESSED!

And yes I did read the instructions and yes it is set on the advanced Logic. I have half a mind to send it back.

In the market
I don't own one, but that is the first bad thing I have heard about them. I am curious to see who else is going to come forward with the same problems.

it is sensitive. Double edged blade...id rather live with annoying beeps rather than a sub far dectector that cant pick up a radar signal more than a mile away.

I love the sensitivity.
I swear my V1 has picked up cops that were miles down the road...... That might not sound impressive, but you have to be there to know what I'm talking about.

Love the V1

Next time I can get up to speed, say 140MPH, I'll unplug it and loft it out the window into a freeway embankment.

I'm sure the V-1 is tecnically better than anything else out there, but when I had mine I only turned it on half the time. Annoying sounds and face it, aesthetically not so great. I've had a K40 dealer installed in 2 cars now. Maybe it will pick up a cop a 1/16 of a mile later than V1 but it looks great, picks up very few false alarms, and I have had zero tickets.

there is no 100% false alarm proof detector.
But for accuracy and reliability, this is one of the best.
Your always gonna have some false alarms.
Better to be safe than sorry is what I think.

I've had my V1 for 5 years now. I got one ticket because I was alone on the road and the cop paced me, otherwise I've been saved far too many times to count. The sensitivity is a little high, but I liken it to a military radar. Once you learn to interpret the signals, it gets much less annoying and a lot more useful. I'd give it another week.

sorry man you got the wrong priorities when picking a radar detector if aesthetics plays into your decision.

The V1 is ugly, but thats why y ou hardwire it. Then you get the remote display and place it within reach, so you can mute the distracting noises. If there is a new strong signal, the V1 will override the mute...btw, I dont compeltely kill the mute volume...just mute it enough so it doesnt bother me.

I've had my V1 for a year or so and now and my X band goes off almost daily. It has never been a radar that has set it off. How often are the radars X band?

Yeah, I'm not to keen on the idea of this big black thing hanging on my windshield either but then I wouldn't mind if I'm on a long trip or something and I know I'm going to be speeding. So how does the K40 work? What does it cost?

Nick

PS How do you subscribe to a thread without posting? Am I totally blind and can't see the obvious link that offers this?

How to reprogram V1...

http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp

Above is a link to program the V1. If the police in your area don't use x band (I think in CA they only use KA?), you might as well turn it off. I haven't tried it yet only because it doesn't bother me too much.

Good luck.

a) you can turn of x
b) if you cant stand a few false warnings dont own it...its not for all people. im fully used to it by now.
c) its works great so just deal with it
d) got 4 of them... love every single one. would not trust radar protection to any other firm.

Sorry, I received a pm to clarify my last post.

If you receive a lot of X band false alarms and wish to disable the Xband radar, you can do so by re-programing it. All other bands will function as normal, just your Xband will not, thus reducing the annoying garage door false alarms. Instructions to re-program your V1 below:

Thanks qwertzee for clarifying and welcome to the forum!

Makes me like the V1 even more now!
